ADVERBS OF MANNER

They describe how the action is performed.

Usually they end with “-ly”

 Ex. Gently, loudly, beautifully

Some don´t end with “ly” (buscar lista en internet)

 Ex. Fast, well, hard.

Other words (adjectives) end with “ly”, but they don´t

Adverb of manner cannot be put between a verb and its direct object.

“He ate the chocolate cake greedily” (correct)

“He ate greedily the chocolate cake” (incorrect)

Sometimes the adverb of manner is place before a verb + object to *add emphasis*

“He gently woke the sleeping”

Adverbs of manner always come after a verb and can be used with words like very or too. Adverbs
of Manner are adjectives that almost always end with – ly, though some are also irregular.

When my teacher talks too *quickly*, it’s difficult to understand him.

I always study *hard* for a big test.

My dad used to shout “loudly*

Please close the door *gently* when you enter my room

I´m sitting *comfortably* so I don’t want to move.

She laughs *happily* at my jokes.

Turtles walk slowly because they are slow animals.

He did a brilliant exam. He passed the exam brilliantly.

He looked at me angrily. He has a very angry look.
