Guidelines: Circulation, Accessibility and environmental context.
The building entry should be clearly visible from the site entrance. The main/visitors’ entrance to the artist
village should be clearly visible for pedestrians entering the site and should be both visible and accessible from
the car-parking area.
Roads and vehicular access on-site should be kept to a minimum while ensuring ease of parking and access to
the main entrance doors. Where it is unavoidable there should be a clear physical distinction between
pedestrian paths and vehicular traffic on site at all times to ensure adequate safety.
Contribution to the public domain and sense of place - integration with streets and footpaths, connection with
adjoining buildings and spaces.
Response to the environmental context - incorporate or reflect local cultural places or natural features,
enhance local landscapes, reflect vernacular-built form, materials.
Visibility and accessibility - connectivity signage for way- finding, signage to identify uses of a facility, adequate
lighting.
Flexible design that also considers the needs of people with disabilities, children, young people and older
people, adequate storage for multiple uses, car parking etc.
