MY PHILOSOPHY OF EDUCATION

My life has been greatly influence by teachers since my mother is a teacher and also my
uncle’s and aunt’s. I am a child raise by a family of teachers through this I was influenced to
take up education. Experiencing teaching right now is great for me because I develop my skill
and confidence. Through exposure to student I formulate some ideas about student learning.

I don't believe learning can be forced on someone. "You can lead a horse to water but you
can't make them drink." I believe that every child is special and they can be a potential genius in
their own way. I believe that learning should be fun. I believe the role of the teacher is to be
everything. A teacher should be a hero to those children, a role model they look up to, but a
teacher should also be a parent, a friend, and a life coach. This means being a disciplinarian
when needed, but it also means being caring, and someone the students can turn to for help.

I developed this belief due to various factors; firstly my mother is a teacher and growing
up with a mother who is a teacher, but in the end very rewarding. While at first she might have
seemed annoying always asking if I had any assignments or if I needed help, she was always
there. I teach because I love giving back what was once bestowed upon me. I do not teach for a
living, but for passion and desire to impart knowledge.

My philosophy of education is existentialism because existentialism is the philosophy

that places emphasis on individual existence, freedom, and choice. In simpler terms,
existentialism is a philosophy concerned with finding self and the meaning of life through free
will, choice, and personal responsibility. The belief is that people are searching to find out whom
and what they are throughout life as they make choices based on their experiences, beliefs, and
outlook. And personal choices become unique without the necessity of an objective form of
truth.
