Lesson 2 Activity
1. Explain your mission as a professional teacher by helping children become more human.

- As I read the question, I presumed that the term “become more human” used in the question
refers to becoming more human like decent adults. A child is born human and as a new born
human you still have needs. According to Freuds Psychoanalytical theory he believed that
events in our childhood have a great influence on our adult lives and shaping our personality.
So, as a professional teacher I believe that I have the responsibility to be a role model to my
students and at the same time a second parent. Being respectful, kind, humble, helpful,
thoughtful and other good values are one of the best ways to help children, because kids learn
through observation and how they are mostly treated. Children mimic what their environment for
example a student grew up in an environment full of thugs so most likely the child might grow up
to be a thug. For me in order to fulfill my mission as a professional teacher I will first teach
manners and good values to my students to guide them to “become more human”.

2. Watch “discovering Your Life’s true Calling – Lou Sabrina Ongkiko at You Tube. Based on the video
that you just watched, what is your life’s true calling? How can you apply that in your calling to
teach?

- As I watched the video, I felt so emotional, inspired and motivated. Teacher Lou made me
realize that being a teacher isn’t just about teaching students their ABC’s and 123’s it is also
about relating and caring to your dear students. I believe and I quote that “a teacher is the root
of all profession” and this made me realize my true calling to be a teacher like Teacher Lou who
is caring, passionate, optimistic and many more. Teacher Lou’s story helped me be motivated to
pursue the career of teaching. I would most likely follow-on Teacher Lou’s footsteps in my
calling to teach.

3. If you say “yes” to the call and mission to teach in this life, reflect on how you are going to prepare
yourself. Write your reflection

- After watching “discovering Your Life’s true Calling” it became clear to me that being teacher is
far from easy, but the speech Teacher Lou gave inspired me to be a teacher like her. If I am
going to be a teacher, I would first focus on adjusting my attitude and approach to teaching.
Despite knowing that being a teacher is hard job to do, I would still try my best to put a positive
mindset, I would work hard not only for my self and my family but also to my student’s and their
family in the future. After putting a positive mindset to teaching, I would probably find my own
reason to teach. Despite being inspired by Teacher Lou to pursue teaching, it is still not enough
to say that I found my purpose in teaching. In order to find my own purpose to teach, I still need
to learn and study about the teaching profession. surely by the help of my teachers and
instructors in my studies, I believe at the end of this semester I would fully embrace my calling to
pursue teaching in this life.
