STATEMENT OF PURPOSE

A 24 year old boy seeing out from the train’s window shouted..
“Dad, look the trees are going behind!”
Dad smiled and a couple sitting nearby, looked at the 24 year old’s behaviour with a pity.
The couple couldn’t resist and said the old man…
“Why don’t you take your son to a good doctor?”
The old man smiled and said “I did and we are just coming from the hospital, my son was blind from birth and he just got his
eyes today”
Everyone’s life story is different. No one is late in seeing and experiencing the world.
“It is never too late or too soon. It is when it is supposed to be.”
The intriguing world of design engineering was first introduced into my life by my uncle, a Mechanical Design
Engineer by profession. My growing interest in the field of design during my school days and the complexities of
mechanical design led me to pursue undergraduate degree in Mechanical Engineering at G.H. Raisoni College
of Engineering, Nagpur, India (RTMNU) and my enthusiasm has only grown over the years. I aspire to study the
Master of Science degree in Engineering Design from the University of Loughborough, United Kingdom to further
enhance my understanding of the intricacies of the subject; and I intend to make significant contributions to the
same field in the near future.

I would regard pursuing bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering domain as one of the best decisions of my
life; as my passion as well as the subjects taught during the 3-year period fell in place remarkably. The guidance
of the excellent faculty enabled me to further enhance my knowledge in the vast topics covered during the curric-
ulum. I was completely intrigued by subjects related to Engineering Design although my performance throughout
graduation was good in the rest of the subjects as well. In my seventh semester, I completed six-month internship
at Koso Kentintrol, Nashik, India. I learned designing of different control valves, gate valves, globe valves and so
on during the internship.

I had always been a sincere and a hard working student as a kid. I always wanted to pursue my career in science
background. My father was a school teacher and his students had been working in various science fields. hence
as a kid, I was mostly aware of careers with medical and engineering streams. During my 8th standard I saw a
small replica cardboard model of a thermal power plant in a science project exhibition arranged at my school.
That day a special interest for mechanical design engineering aroused in me. I achieved 83.23% in my Secondary
School Certificate examination. Somehow due to an unavoidable situation I was not able to study further immedi-
ately after the SSC. I took an admission for diploma in mechanical engineering, an year after I passed my SSC
exam. I went on to achieve 66% in my diploma in mechanical engineering examination. I then went on to pursue
Bachelor of Engineering with mechanical engineering and I graduated with a 6.21 CGPA out of 10. Later, I started
looking for jobs especially in design field and I went to Mumbai city. This was a turning period of my life, stay-
ing away from my family and friends in a metropolitan city Mumbai. Mumbai taught me to be self-independ-
ent and find my own path. I learned basic design engineering of process plants and basic design softwares such
Autodesk Autocad and Microstation during my job search period and shortly after a few months of searching I got
my first job with Arihant Engineering Consultants as a Piping Layout Designer. I had been given training in ad-
vanced plant design engineering softwares such as PDMS and plant 3D at my first job.

I have been working since then which sums up my professional work experience of 6 years in 3 companies namely
Arihant Engineering Consultants, Sepadutech Pvt. Ltd. and Novo nordisk engineering (nne). As I began to work
in the mechanical engineering design domain, there was a huge world to be explored. I was assigned multiple
engineering design activities as such as plant layout preparation, plot plan development, overall study of P&ID’s
/ PFD’s, developing 3D model on softwares, preparation of engineering design deliverable documents, BOM’s,
piping isometrics drawings checking, 3d model reviews, stress analysis of critical piping systems on softwares
such as Ansys and Caesar II. As a design engineer, in simple words I had to study the input documents, prepare
the 3D model based on inputs, analysing the system for various stressing conditions and preparing the deliverable
documents. I was lucky to have been able to work in diverse projects such as oil and gas, chemical and pharma-
ceuticals in all the phases of project lifecycle from conceptual design to detailed design, validation and commis-
sioning. I have an extensive experience in interacting with cross discipline design engineers. I thoroughly under-
stand the design aspects of various disciplines working on a project such as electrical, civil, process and structural.

During my 6 years of professional life, I was handling a lot of projects concurrently which enhanced my ability to
multitask, thereby allowing me to grow professionally as well as gain experience and confidence in not-so-familiar
situations. The skills which I developed during this time, allowed me to lead from the front under the guidance of
my Project Managers and other Senior officials. I was also responsible for communicating with the customers via
official meetings, conference calls as well as through emails, thereby developing and maintaining long-standing
trustworthy relationships with them. To further enhance my skills, I underwent various professional trainings from
time to time such as Project Management Professional by Joseph Philips, Autodesk plant 3d, Microsoft excel etc
and even today continue attending trainings via Udemy and LinkedIn Learning.

The main reason for choosing Loughborough University, United Kingdom is the fact that it is established in 1909.
In addition, the outstanding rankings in the UK as well as the world further cement my decision. The Master of
Science (M.Sc.) programme in Engineering Design at your prestigious University will help me in fulfilling my future
and career goals by widening my knowledge and understanding in this field. The Course Curriculum boasts of a
wide array of modules including Computer Aided Engineering which are not only interesting but will also further
help in broadening my career horizon. Also, the programme is accredited by the Institution of Engineering De-
signers (IED), the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) and the Institution of Mechanical Engineers
(IMechE), licensed by the UK Engineering Council.

As far as my career goals are concerned, I would like to see myself sound both technically as well as professionally
in the next 10 years and also be able to work in diverse fields in the Mechanical Design domain, thereby gaining
as much exposure and skills as possible. One of my strong traits has always been working with the same zest
and zeal not only as a team player but also as a team leader, hence, I would like to see myself leading a team of
well-driven technical professionals in the near future and I believe the said Master’s degree will take me one step
closer to my goal. And I earnestly wish to fulfil the pledge of giving back something to the society where I belong.

In conclusion, I would like to reiterate that studying the Course will not only help me professionally but will also
enable me to stand out in the crowd in such competitive times. Hence, I would like to make an earnest appeal to
go through my application and accept me as a prospect in continuing my higher education at your esteemed
Institution. I am thrilled at the prospect of studying one year with exceptional faculty in a multi-cultural and diverse
environment.
