Experiment Name : Diode Characteristics
Theory :

Clipper circuits have the ability to “clip” off a portion of the input signal without
distorting the remaining part of the alternating waveform. The half wave rectifier
is an example of the simplest form of diode clipper. Depending on the orientation of
the diode, the positive or negative region of the input signal is “clipped” off. There are
two general categories of clippers: series and parallel. The series c configuration is
defined as one where the diode is in series with the load, while the parallel variety has
the diode in branch parallel to the load.
Clippers are useful for protecting circuits from exceeding various voltages (either
positive or negative)

Discussion :
This experiment describes the construction of both positive and negative clipper
circuits . The output signal was observed using Analogue graph while varying the
input signal amplitude to observe the clipping effect of the clipper circuits. The results
show that the positive clipper circuit clipped off the positive half-cycle of the input
signal, while the negative clipper circuit clipped off the negative half-cycle of the
input signal. The output voltage was limited to the voltage drop across the diode.
