OBJECTIVES:
Investigate the characteristics of diode based clipper circuits.

REQUIRED APPARATUS:
 Power supply
 Oscilloscope
 Frequency Generator
 Digital multi-meter (DMM)
 Controls: Resistors, capacitor, diodes
Theory
A circuit which removes the peak of a waveform is known as a clipper.
Clipper is designed to prevent the output of a circuit from exceeding a
predetermined voltage level without distorting the remaining part of the
applied waveform. Clipping Circuits are also called as Slicers, amplitude
selectors or limiters. Clippers may be classified based on the
orientation(s) of the diode. The orientation decides which
half cycle is affected by the clipping action.

OBSERVATION:
1. Draw observed waveform of the given circuit and mention its peak to peak and RMS value
of output voltage.

2. Now vary supply DC voltages 4V into 5V and

-2V into -3V. Draw waveform for this
configuration and mention its peak to peak and
RMS value of output voltage.

3. What changes do you observe by altering the supply DC voltages?

ANS) As we increase the input voltages of both +ve and –ve clipper the amplitude of both will

increased in output waveform.

RESULTS:

The amplitude of output waveform of positive and negative cycle can be controlled by using this clipper
circuit.
