Tape Drive Encryption
There are two encryption key management options. Support for application managed
and OKM managed encryption depends on the drive type:
• Application managed: An application manages the keys using a data path.
• OKM managed: Oracle Key Manager (OKM) appliance manages the keys using
an Ethernet connection outside the data path which is generally more secure. For
more information on encryption, refer to the drive documentation and the Oracle
Key Manager (OKM) documentation.
• T10000 Encryption: All T10000 generations are encryption ready, however
enabling either application managed or OKM managed encryption requires a
T10K-EKEY-A-N encryption activation permit. You can order an encryption
activation permit at any time (during initial purchase or afterwards). After
purchasing the permit, use Virtual Operator Panel ( VOP) to enable encryption
(see VOP documentation on the Oracle Hardware Components Overview).
• T10000C & T10000D : These drives no longer require encryption license keys
to enable encryption.

Appendix A
• LTO Encryption: OKM managed encryption requires an LT-ENCRYPT-
ACTIVE encryption activation permit. Application managed encryption using
the data path does not require a permit.
• HP LTO 5 and 6: These drives both support OKM managed and application
managed encryption.
• IBM LTO 5, 6 & 7: These drives require a Belisarius card in the drive tray to
interface with OKM. You may purchase a drive with or without OKM
compatibility. To upgrade a non OKM compatible drive, you can purchase a kit
to add the Belisarius card.
• IBM LTO8: These drives require a LKM card in the drive tray to interface with
the OKM. You may purchase a drive with or without OKM compatibility. To
upgrade a non OKM compatible drive, you can purchase a kit to add the LKM
card.
Re-using Encryption Activation Permits: If installing a previously purchased activation
permit for an older drive, you can re-use the activation permit when upgrading to a
newer generation drive in the same family. This is allowed as long as the total number
of encryption enabled drives does not exceed your total number activation permits for
the family. For example, if you have six T10K-EKEY-A-N activation permits, you can
only have a total of six encryption enabled T10000 drives (regardless of generation).

Appendix B
This Appendix contains information about the process for updating the microcode.
Firmware:
Library firmware is installed in the factory and resides on the HBC card, which can hold
two separate versions of code, the:
• Current activated version,
• Previous version or a new downloaded version.
When upgrading firmware, if for some reason you need to return to the previous version
of firmware, this feature allows you to do so.
Firmware Packages:
There are two types of firmware packages for the library:
• SL3000 firmware for the library controller,
• Library Console application firmware (SLConsole).
Firmware Upgrade:
SLConsole code upgrade is not intrusive and can be performed at any time.
SL3000 code is intrusive and requires a 1 – 2 hour outage to complete.
Future: SL3000 code upgrades are planned to be not intrusive.
Refer to the appropriate Release Notes and Code Installation Instructions for guidance
when upgrading to any new version. These instructions are subject to change at any
time, with each release as well as between releases.

Appendix C
This Appendix contains additional information about the installation of the Access
Expansion Module(AEM).
Site Preparation:
• Ensure proper additional floor space is available per SL3000 Overview and Planning
Guide (Chapter 5 – Site Planning). All SL3000 manuals are available at:
http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/documentation/tape-storage-curr-
187744.html#libraries
or
• https://mosemp.us.oracle.com/handbook_internal/Systems/SL3000/docs.html
• Firmware of SL3000 must be at minimum level FRS_2.30. Check the System
Assurance Center for the latest firmware level:
https://sac.us.oracle.com/download – Search for “SL3000”.
• If adding the AEM to an existing SL3000 take note that if the library to be upgraded
has partitioning activated, it is important not to move data cartridges from their
original locations. Refer to the SL3000 installation manual (Oracle-Internal Only)
and AEM installation instructions for additional information.
• If customer uses ACSLS for library control ensure it is at minimum level: ACSLS
version 7.3 PUT 0801 (future version ACSLS 8.0 will have full support of the AEM
and will allow enter/eject of more than 42 cartridges).
• Check the SL3000 Overview website for inter-operability of customer applications
and requirements: http://tapeinterop.us.oracle.com:8080/apex/f?
p=100:4:1002586135105001::NO:::
• Review all related FABs at:
https://support.us.oracle.com/handbook_internal/Systems/SL3000/fab.html
• Have the customer download the hardware activation keys from the Oracle Software
Delivery Cloud (formerly E-Delivery) website:
Service is no longer responsible for supplying hardware activation keys.
Starting at SL3000 code 3.0 obtain Hardware Activation key.

Appendix D
This Appendix contains information about the installation of T10000C drives.
• For the SL3000 to recognize the T10000 (A,B,C,& D) tape drives, the library needs
to be at a minimum code. The minimum level software requirements to support the
T10000 drives are listed at the following URL. However, you should strive to use
the latest available software level.
http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E48725_02/en/E20715/html/chapter4.htm
• This code is SPS code which is not available through the normal channels. To
obtain this code, open a support ticket and a backline tape library engineer will be
able to distribute it.
