Friday March 17th Lesson Plan

Winter - 2023

I. Your Name: Lindsey Garber

II. Unit Title: Unit 4: The Renaissance & Reformation (The Renaissance only today)
III. Unit Overview: This unit will explain how there was an attitude change during the
14th century where people's views on life and religion completely turned around.
Many new ideas of artwork were introduced, but also ideas of the Church and the
problems embedded within.
IV. Unit Learning Goal: Students will explore the rise of the Renaissance and
Reformation through analyzing artwork and important documents from the
Reformation.
V. Daily Objectives:
A. Students will learn about important people from the Renaissance and their
ideas (a lot of artwork related but also inventors)
B. Students will understand the Renaissance did not just happen in one place
and was different in other parts of the world.
C. Students will understand the importance of literature and the printing press.
D. Students will compare and contrast Renaissance vs. Medieval artwork.
VI. Instructional Sequence:
1. I will begin class by asking students about their day and how they
feel. Remind class about what they did the day prior about artwork in
the Middle Ages vs the Renaissance. (5 minutes)
2. Ask students to take out their notes from the day before and that they
will be finishing it today. (3 minutes)
3. Begin going through the rest of the notes, make sure to place emphasis
on important people and ideas. Really want students to know about
the importance of the printing press. (30 minutes)
4. Allow students to work on assignment from the day prior which they
never finished. 5 minutes
5. For the rest of the hour, students will work on Renaissance artwork
formative assessment. Introduce the assessment to the students with
the PowerPoint. Once you do this, make sure students understand
what they are doing and that it is their exit ticket for the day. They
need to turn it in before leaving the classroom. (15 minutes)
6. Use the last couple minutes to talk to students about what piece of
artwork is from what period. Make sure they understand that
Renaissance artwork is more realistic and themes are humanism and
individualism while the Middle Ages the artwork is not realistic and
themes focus on religion. (3 minutes)
