The Philippines has a very
different culture because of race, faith,
etc. Our past is the reason why our
country is colorful. Historically, various
invaders from other countries can adapt
their way of life and merge their culture
with ours using these rules.

As a result, there is a diverse

culture and way of life. Philippine art has
accumulated and flourished from the
country’s early civilization to today. As in
other countries, art inspires every
Filipino’s life and possessions. Philippine
art reflects a society influenced by a
diverse spectrum of cultural influences.
• The Philippines is a culturally diverse country with an
estimated 14- 17 million Indigenous Peoples (IPs)
belonging to 110 ethnolinguistic groups.
• They are mainly concentrated in Northern Luzon
(Cordillera Administrative Region, 33%) and
Mindanao (61%), with some groups in the Visayas
area.
• The Philippine Constitution, in recognition of this
diversity and under the framework of national unity
and development, mandates state recognition,
protection, promotion, and fulfillment of the rights of
Indigenous Peoples.
• Further, Republic Act 8371, also known as the
“Indigenous Peoples Rights Act” (1997, IPRA),
recognized the right of IPs to manage their ancestral
domains; it has become the cornerstone of current
national policy on IPs (UNDP, 2010).
• RA 6734, used the term “Lumad” to differentiate the
ethnic communities from the Bangsamoro people.
• Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao to BARM
Islamic traditions were founded in our
land in the 14th century. European
countries also influence some
Philippine artists. By presenting the
diversity and wealth of our culture,
Filipino artists have carved out a
distinct cultural identity for
themselves.
