Procedures for Urinary Incontinence.

Video 3: Applying a Urinary Collector System.

Material:

1. Uridome
2. Non-sterile gloves
3. Urine bag
4. Hygiene material
a. Sterile gauze
b. Bedpan
c. Kidney dish
d. Antiseptic

Wash hands, and apply gloves. Explain the procedure to the user. Wash genitalia and dry thoroughly.

Applying a Male Uridome:

Select the proper size of the uridome (or sheath). In this case, the diameter is 25 mm. Carefully apply
adhesive tape at the base of the penis. Do not restrain blood flow.

Hold the penis with one hand and place the sheath over the glans with the other. Gently unroll the
uridome along the penis, and adjust it. Confirm the connecting and drainage tubes are free of twists,
and finally, connect the urine bag. Attach the bag to the bed leaving room for the patient to move.

Observations: The use of an uridome minimizes the risk of infections.

Full-length self-adhesive uridomes are available in the market. They do not require additional adhesive.
When unrolling the uridome along the penis, leave a gap between the tip of the penis and the uridome;
consider about two-and-a-half centimeters. Verify the urine drains properly. Change the sheath every 24
hours by rolling it back.
