Problem Solving

It is important to understand and divide


two different types of possible failure:

Hardware Components
The ITACAX and ITACA MD systems are composed by:
• The main cabinet, that include all the necessary devices to acquire, convert or elaborate
data;
• the acquisition board, that are the most important components of the system: these convert
the signal from analog mV to digital signal and allow the drawing of the curve. Each
acquisition Hardware is structured to use at most 4 independent channels for type K
acquisition or, at most, 1 channel for S acquisition, managed in a completely separated
way.
• a simple switch for Ethernet cable connections;
• some schuko plugs;
• some thermocouple plugs, used for the easy connection of the thermocouple cable;
• a PC where the Software ITACAX (or ITACA MD) is installed;
• different Cables (Power supply, Ethernet, thermocouple cable).

ACQUIRE THE CURVES • Check the cable integrity and the polarity following the

2. Try to disconnect and reconnect the ethernet cable;
3. Try to restart the computer;

DISPLAY DOESN’T WORKS If ITACA is working properly but the display doesn’t show the
results or the status of the cups are wrong, try to:
1. Remove and place again the cups;
2. Restart ProserviceIO app (*Check next slides)
3. Try to ping the display at the addresses (10.0.0.11 ;
10.0.0.12; 10.0.0.13; 10.0.0.14; 10.0.0.21 and 10.0.0.22)
4. If the Ping doesn’t find answer, try to check the ethernet
cable connection;
5. Check the distance of the cabling: the maximum
distance allowed is 70-80 m

DISPLAY TOUCHSCREEN IS NOT WORKING 1. Follow the procedure of calibration: *see next slides.

ITACA DOESN’T START THE ACQUISITIONS AND THE DATA The acquisition hardware is not detected
ACQUISITION INTERFACE IS RED
1. Open the cabinet and see if the light (green or orange) in
the hardware national is on;
2. If it is on:
• Try to restart ITACA;
• Try to disconnect and reconnect the ethernet cable;
• Try to restart the computer;

3. If it is off:
• Check the power supply and in case change the cable;
• Check the ethernet port;
• Contact ProService in order to change the spare parts
and recreate the license.

If the problem persist, contact ProService


PC LOCKED – ITACA DOESN’T WORK If it is no possible to click any button in the touchscreen, it is
necessary to turn off the power supply of the Cabinet and
wait a few minutes before restart it again.
Sometimes is also better disconnect the main power supply
of the cabinet and wait 1 minute before replug in.
ITACA DOESN’T START AND ASK FOR A FILE FOR THE LICENCE Call ProService for remake the license

ITACA DOESN’T CALCULATE THE CARBON 1. Check if some error appars in the screen:
• If there is the alarm «Wrong cup», Check if the Tellurium
cup was correctly used in the Tellurium channel and
repeat the analysis;
• If the «Broken sample» error appear in the screen, it
means that the thermocouple in the cup broke. Repeat
the analysis;
• If the «Cold Iron» message appear in the screen, it
means that the acquisition starts at a temperature lower
than 1250°C. Try to heat more the spoon before the
analysis and reach higher temperature in the cup.
2. Check if in the Tellurium Channel there is the Tellurium
cup.
ITACA CALCULATE A STRANGE VALUE OF CARBON 1. Check if the Tellurium cup was used correctly;

WINDOWS DOESN’T START 1. Check if some external device (like USB or Hard disk are
connected to the PC) are conected to the PC;
2. Try to disconnect all the external devices like the
keyboard and restart the computer;
3. The problem can be related to the Hard disk damaged;

Check if the ProserviceIO application is on:


1. Click the arrow in the botton right of the desktop that
allow you to see the hidden icons and find the icon of
ProserviceIO
2. If the icon is not there, go into C:\\ProServiceIO;
3. Run the ProserviceIO.exe

HOW TO SOLVE SOFTWARE PROBLEMS
Softaware Maintenance

ITACA is a software installed in a computer that is based on a sql database

with differrent applications connected and main part of the errors are related to

normal PC errors (firewall, able/disabled ports, database failure) or to network

connections.

In order to solve these problem is suggested to request the support of an IT guy.

PROBLEM RESOLUTION
ITACA IS NOT ABLE TO COMMUNICATE WITH THE OTHER 1. Check the network connections;
WORKSTATIONS (Cabinet, Spectrometer, Pouring station) 2. Check The Lan cable;
3. Check the IP address. The IP address have to be fixed
(192.168.1.202 for the pouring and 192.168.1.201 for
the melting);

ITACA IS NOT ABLE TO COMMUNICATE WITH THE DISPLAYS 1. Check the ITACA sub network connections;
2. The network that allow the communication with the
displays is the ITACA sub-network (10.0.0.x). Check that
all the communication is working;

ITACA SHOW AN ERROR OF DATABASE NOT ACTIVE 1. Check the access to the sql server where ITACA database
is located;
2. Check from the Task Manager Services if the the Sql
Server is Active;
