➢ 2D and 3D shapes
➢ Patterns
➢ Symmetry
Lo: To define point, line, ray and line segment.
Point, Line, Line segment and Ray
A point is a dot which has no size, shape or thickness just position or location
A line is a straight path of points that has no beginning or end. Line ⃡𝐴𝐵
AA⃡ 𝐴XType equation here.Y
A line segment is a portion of a line that has two end points. A͞B
A ray is a portion of a line which has one end point and
𝐴𝐵
extends in one direction.
Complete Exercise 7.1 in textbook.
Drawing a Line segment
LO: To expertise drawing a line-segment of given length.
Practice
1.Draw line segments of the following lengths .
a) 4 cm
1
Steps:1.Place the ruler on the paper and press it firmly with one hand. Mark a point A
against the 0 mark of the ruler.
2. Mark, another point B against the 4 cm mark of the ruler.
3. Put your pencil at point A and join the points A and B using a straight line.
Remove the ruler. Hence drawn a line segment of length 4 cm.
b) 6 cm
c) 10 cm
Home assignment
d) 8 cm
e) 12 cm
Plane Shapes or 2-D shapess
LO: To differentiate the basic 2-D shapes.
2D shapes or simple shapes or plane shapes have only two dimensions, that is length and
breadth.
Shape Sides Corners Property
Rectangle 4 4 Opposite sides are equal .
A͞B = C͞D and D͞A = BC
͞
2
Square 4 4 All sides are equal.
͞ = Q͞R = R͞S = P͞S
PQ
Triangle 3 3
Circle 0 0
Do exercise 7.3 in textbook.
Solid Shapes
Solid shapes are also known three- dimensional (3-D) shapes as they have three
dimensions length, breadth and height.
Face – Surface of a solid shape.
Edge or side – The line where two faces meet.
Vertex or corner – Point where the edges meet.
3-D shape Faces Edges Vertices
Cuboid 6 12 8
Rectangular shape Opposite edges are
equal
Cube 6 12 8
Square shape All edges are equal
3
Cylinder 3 2 0
2 circular faces Curved edges are
equal
1 curved face
Sphere 1 0 0
Curved face
Cone 2 1 1
One curved face
One circular face
Do Exercise 7.4 in textbook.
Symmetry
The figures in which, one-part overlaps with the other part exactly are
called symmetrical figures.
The imaginary line which divided the figure into two symmetrical figure
is called line of symmetry.
4
Do Exercise 7.6 in textbook.
Pattern
Lo: To analyze a pattern and complete it.
A pattern is a repeated design or an ordered set of shapes or numbers.
Types of Patterns in Shapes
Color pattern,
Shape pattern
Direction pattern
Size pattern
Pattern in Numbers and Letters
Do Exercise 7.7 in textbook.
