1. What are the challenges faced by Philippine Airlines based on the article?

= The Philippine Airlines facing challenges because of COVID-19 which brought a crisis to the economy,
who works in the hospitality and tourism industry and especially in the airline industry. Philippine Airline
had a tough run and was one of the most affected because of the pandemic, Filipinos refused to travel due
to high cases and strict entry protocols within some boundaries. PAL reported a net loss of P29 billion from
January to September 2020. They will also return leased aircraft and cut some 2,700 jobs, and they are
planning to seek court protection from its creditors.

2. What possible solutions can you suggest to solve the identified challenges, assuming you are part
of PAL’s management?

= These are the possible solutions to solve the challenges in Philippine Airlines:

 Identifying new ways to increase revenues to strengthen the airline’s financial position.
 The company creates the Travel Again program, which allows travelers or individuals to purchase a
travel certificate that grows in value over time and that is offered at no cost to airlines.
 Supporting its partners to make sure they are ready to launch sales to capture the bounce.
 As consumers look for reassurance, they will work with their suppliers to make extra efforts around
sanitation and consumer safety.

3. How will you encourage Filipinos to book flights and travel again despite the issues in the airline
industry, especially during a health crisis?

= We will encourage Filipinos to rebook flights and regain their trust. We will ensure the safety of travelers
and implement new health protocols for safe travel. We will improve passenger options for greater travel
flexibility. Passengers affected by COVID-19 cancellations may rebook, receive a refund, or convert their
ticket to a travel voucher. Purchase the most comprehensive and affordable COVID-19 travel insurance for
them.

4. How can airline companies, such as Philippine Airlines, ensure the safety of their passengers
during a flight in the time of health crisis?

= When flying, airline companies will take precautions. The crews will inspect passengers to ensure they
are properly wearing masks, checking their temperature, sanitizing their hands, and maintaining social
distance at all times. They will ensure that sick travelers with the above-mentioned reportable symptoms
are identified and will take the necessary precautions, such as minimizing contact between passengers,
cabin crew, and the sick person. Separate the sick person from others if possible. Contaminated surfaces
should be cleaned and disinfected in accordance with airline protocol. Staff may conduct a health
evaluation of the sick traveler's symptoms and potential exposures.
