Introduction to LFM

 State of the art:

~ 500.000 landfill sites in Europe

 Threats:
Environment, land-use restrictions
and global negative impacts

 Opportunities:
Recovery of large volumes of
resources through Landfill Mining

RAWFILL 2
Introduction to LFM

Landfill Mining: a process for extracting minerals or other solid

natural resources from waste materials that previously have been
deposit of by burying them in the ground.

Interest of landfill mining: to reduce the amount of landfill mass

encapsulated within the closed landfill and/ or temporarily remove
hazardous material to allow protective measures to be taken before
the landfill mass is replaced.
