Statement of Purpose

Dear Sir,

Thank you for giving me a chance to explain myself and my application. My name is Rabia Khan, I
belong to Pakistan. I have completed my Bachelors in chemistry in 2014 with 3.69 CGPA and Masters in
2017 with 3.25GPA. During my research I got a fellowship from Government organization which led to
job after completion of my thesis. My MS research is based on Photocatalysis for energy and
environmental applications. I developed Carbon dots modified CoTe for photocatalytic applications in
MS research. I also have a publication in ChemPhysChem.

My interest in Chemistry goes back to my high school when I was first introduced to chemistry lab. This
interest grew over the years and i was placed in job where I got an opportunity to work in a fully
functioning ISO -17025 certified labs equipped with various analytical instruments including, Particle
size analyzer IR spectrophotometer, UV/VIS Spectrophotometer, GC-MS, TGA, DSC, Karl Fischer and
atomic absorption spectrophotometer. We use to test various physiochemical properties of polymeric
materials including, thermal, mechanical, structural and physical. This experience has added to my
knowledge in the field of polymer as well.

Recently I resigned from job to pursue higher studies and to do something innovative. It is my utmost
desire to help world in my own capacity. I want to be a part of something that can make world a better
place and this desire brings me to KFUMP PhD scholarships. The projects topic related to “Photocatalysis
for energy and Environmental problems” increases my curiosity and if I can be a part of any project
related to protection of environment, it would be a dream comes true, as we all dream of a clean and green
world.

Many research groups in KFUMP are doing research based on support the growth of renewable energy
and the development of high efficiency catalysts for hydrogen production and CO2 reduction using green
chemistry; it excites me to work in this area.

My previous experience in research and work experience in lab will help me to carry out research in the
given topic. I aspire to learn more and gain practical skills which will help me in future or professional
progression. We as a developing nation don't have enough resources and exposure in the area of science
and technology. I am passionate to get a deeper understanding and knowledge of my field, this will add to
my confidence and professional satisfaction. I have always been a hard working student and I believe
hard work is the key ingredient to reach any goal.
This PHD scholarship is an excellent opportunity to meet my professional and personal goals. I aspire to
gain exposure and a deeper understanding of my field, I want to learn and increase my knowledge so that
I can overcome the feeling of not being enough in my professional life, and KFUMP provides me with
this opportunity.

It would be a privilege to study at King Fahad university of Petroleum and Minerals.
