Purpose
-Aim: The aim of the experiment is to find the muzzle velocity by launching a ball into a ballistic
pendulum.
-Explaination Inelastic Collision: It is when total kinetic energy is converted into a different kind of
energy by colliding with something else that is inelastic.
Materials/Method:
Materials used for this experiment are:
- Ballistic Pendulum with angle adjustment
- Projectile Launcher
- Steel Ball
- Clamp
- Stopwatch
Method of the experiment is:
- First calculate the Period pendulum with the steel ball inside it, By pulling the
pendulum to a certain angle and releasing it to calculate the Period of the pendulum
- Set the angle to 0⁰ and insert the ball into the Projectile Launcher with medium
strength
- Pull the lever on the Projectile Launcher and write down the angle on the Pendulum
- Repeat steps 2,3 5 times

Calculating Muzzle Velocity:

What sources of error are there in this experiment? How much do these errors affect your result?
There many errors in the experiment
- Incorrect period
- Incorrect Angles
- Not same projectile energy on all the trials
Does increasing the mass of the pendulum increase or decrease the efficiency of the energy transfer
in the collision?
It decreases efficiency of energy transfer because it’s potential energy increases preventing it to move back much.
