CHAPTER V

SUMMARY, CONCLUSIONS AND RECOMMENDATION

Summary

The study was conducted to develop a teaching guide in

chosen Science concept which is atom. Atom is the smallest

particle of a substance that can exist by itself or be

combined with other atoms to form molecule. Atom is the

foundation of the understanding of the next lesson in Matter

without the mastery of the Atom the learners will not fully

understand the Topic Matter. The study aimed to (1)

developed a Teaching Guide in Science based on the following

documentary Films; (a) Atom: Clash of Titans (b) Atom: Key

to the Cosmos (c)Atom Illusion of Reality (2) Identify the

steps in developing the teaching guide. (3) Evaluate the

developed teaching resource in terms of: (a) Content (b)

Effectiveness (c)Ease of use

The Researchers Chosen the Documentary film BBC Atom:

(The Clash of Titans, The Key to the Cosmos and The Illusion

of Reality) considering the recommendation and input of the

experts.

While worksheets was developed, these next steps were taken:

1. A topic was determined for choosing a documentary film.

2. Watching the (3) three documentary films

3. A draft of the lesson Guide and worksheets was prepared

This study used developmental method to develop a lesson

guide and worksheet about documentary films in Science. This

study includes three phases 1st is the Analyzing, 2nd is the

constructing and the last phase is the Validation of the

developed teaching resource.

4. Experts input and validation was solicited and received

for consideration

The developed worksheet is composed of three parts the 1st

part is the Lesson exemplar the Guide of the teachers in

teaching the topic. The teaching Guide composed of Three

Lesson Exemplars with different topic. The first exemplar is

all about the models of the atom, the second exemplar is all

about the creation of the universe and the last exemplar is

all about the Parallel Universes.

45

The 2nd part is the worksheets. This part of the

worksheet contains the introduction about the

topic/documentary films to be viewed. It gives the students

the ideas or the big frame of the contents also contains the

questions to be answered based on the analyzed film. A

cartoon character was being used to capture’s students’

attention.

 Answer Sheets

 Timeline (if there is)

 Summary

And the 3rd part contains the reflection/reaction of

the students out of the chosen documentary films.

5. The worksheet was revised according to experts

recommendation

The researchers able to select (15) Science Teacher

despite of the fact that they are having their semestral

break and In-service training to give their inputs and

evaluation to the developed teaching resource.

Descriptive statistics was used in analyzing the

evaluation of the science teachers.

46

Conclusion

Based on the findings of the study, the following

conclusions were drawn.

1. The analyzed documentary film BBC: ATOM is the basis on

developing a Teaching Guide composed of (3) lesson exemplars

and (3) worksheets.

2. The developed Teaching guide is highly useful based on

the content. The content is relevant, accurate and

appropriate to the needs of the targeted users.

3. The developed teaching guide is highly effective it can

be adapted, satisfies different teaching and learning

styles, reflects current, accepted methodology, and enables

to deliver task-based learning that meets the individual

needs.

4. The developed Teaching guide allows to easily identify

the competencies, presents the information attractively and

supports flexibility and self-directed learning.

47

Recommendation

Based from the result of this study, the following

recommendations were made:

1. The output of the study can adapt by the Science Teachers

to use in the teaching and learning process.

2. Lessons must relied on learner’s prior knowledge for

building new skills.

3. Lessons or tasks can be changed or modified to respond to

the cultural and linguistic differences of learners.

4. Put/add appropriate pictures and illustrations to catch

students’ interest in answering worksheets.

5. Devise a strategy to transform questions into an

interesting activity, because pure text wherein the learners

will be asked to explain will surely result to boredom,

hence, failure to respond

6. To future researchers they can continue this study for

Plot Testing to know if it can really be an effective

teaching method and the impact of it to the students

learning.

7. In Pilot testing the developed teaching resource was

intended to Grade 8 students taking Science Subjects.
