Documentary Film Analysis: Basis for Teaching Guide Development

This study developed a Teaching Guide based on the analyzed documentary films namely
BBC Atom (Atom: Clash of Titans, Atom: Key to the Cosmos and Atom: Illusions of Reality.
BBC: Atom is Science Documentary published by BBC and presented by Jim Al-Khalili in
2007. The specific objectives of this study were to: Developed a Teaching Guide in Science
based on the following documentary Films; (a) Atom: Clash of Titans, (b) Atom: Key to the
Cosmos (c)Atom Illusion of Reality; Identify the steps in developing the teaching guide and
Evaluate the developed teaching resource in terms of: (a) Content (b) Effectiveness (c) Ease of
use. The developed Teaching Guide composed of three Lesson Guides and five Worksheets each
with corresponding competency. It takes a month to finish the study. The developed Teaching
Guide was validated by the (15) fifteen Science Teachers in District 2 and 3 in Camarines Sur.
Data on validation of the developed teaching guide were gathered using a checklist. Mean were
used to treat the data.
Results of the study showed that the developed teaching guide is high based on Content,
Effectiveness and Ease of Use. It showed that Material is appropriate to its intended users,
appropriate to the needs of the targeted users and current, relevant and accurate based on the
content. The material can be adapted to meet the needs of the targeted users, Content reflect
current and accepted methodology and material present opportunities for task-based learning
based on the effectiveness. The material provide flexibility in its use, present information in
appealing ways and support self-directed learning.
