The VRS Time Synchronization is a vital part of the VRS function.

Keeping correct time is important for Telemetry data.
In order to provide accurate data, it is important that data captured and data reports
generated have accurate timestamps.

2
Time Synchronization

• VRS can keep its real time clock synchronized using various sources
– VDR or Mini VDR using GPS NMEA sentences
– External NTP server
– Destination FTP/SFTP server

• If no active synchronization is selected, the VRS will

use its internal RT clock to generate timestamps
– The RT clock can be set under ‘System Maintenance’ (always recommended)

The Vessel Remote Server can keep its real time clock synchronized using various
sources.
The best way is to use the GPS data, received by either the VDR or the VRS Mini VDR.
Alternatively, the VRS can be configured to synchronize using an external Network Time
Protocol Server.
Finally, the VRS can also be configured to synchronize its real time clock with a
Destination FTP or SFTP server.

If no active synchronization is configured, or not reachable, the VRS will use its internal
real time clock to generate timestamps.
The Real Time Clock can be set under the main menu, ‘System Maintenance’.
Even if a synchronization source is configured, it is ALWAYS recommended to set the Real
Time Clock at time of installation.

It is also recommended to always use UTC time for the real time clock.
