Welcome to the Training on Vessel Remote Server - Functional Overview

 VRS Hardware

• Four IEEE 802.1 100BaseTX (Ethernet) interfaces

• One IEEE 802.1 1000BaseT/100BaseTX (Ethernet) interface
• 12-24VDC IEC 60945 nominal, 10W
• 110V-230VAC IEC 60945 nominal, 12W using AC adaptor supplied
• IEC 60945 protected
• SWAP technology
• Optional 512 GB M2 SSD for additional storage of data

The VRS hardware looks like this.

There are five LAN interfaces.
There is support for Danelec SWAP technology.
The hardware is marine approved according to IEC 60945.
The power requirements are 12 to 24V DC, and it includes a PSU for 110 Volts to 230
Volts AC.
Optionally it can be equipped with up to 512 GB SSD disk for additional storage of data.

This drawing gives a simplified overview of the VRS functionality.

This training will go through each of the components, one by one.

For communication, it has a “Network interface” function, that manages the five LAN
interfaces.
Here you can configure the network interfaces to be available for communication with
vessel systems and outbound connections.

It has a Mini VDR function to be used when there is no Danelec VDR installed.

It has a “Data Processor” function that is able to select, extract, pre-process data and
send data to destinations.
Currently there can be a maximum of two data processors.

It has a “VDR Live Data Client”, which is able to receive live data from a VDR, if it is there,
or generate live data to e.g. a VDR Explorer tool, if the Mini VDR is used.

You can configure where to send data to, or get configurations from via the
“Destinations”.

In “Time Sync” you can configure how the VRS will synchronize its internal real-time
clock – which is used to time stamp data.

And finally, there is a series of system administration and configuration functions e.g.
license management.
Amongst others, the VRS has a web-configuration interface.

So … if there is a Danelec VDR installed already, the data processors get data from that,
and the Mini VDR function is not used. In that case the data flows as indicated.

When you are using the VDR Explorer tool with the VRS, and there is a Danelec VDR
installed, you must connect the VDR Explorer to the VRS and, NOT to the VDR.
The “VDR Live Data Client” function, makes that possible.

When there is no Danelec VDR installed, the Mini VDR is used, and the data flows as
indicated.
The Mini VDR is able to boot and get data from RDI-S, as well as get data from the other
Remote Data interfaces and networks.
