Abstract
In this report we will talk about how to use Filing, marking, cutting, drilling, taping,
and dyeing tools and how to benefit from it in different aspects ,also we will learn
about the different Sheet metal operations and w,

1.0 Introduction

(a) About Filing, marking,

cutting, drilling, taping,
and dyeing

When in industry is in the process of making a product weather it is an engine

or a machine or even a toy , it can’t compromise on these methods.

Filing , marking, cutting, drilling, tapping, and dyeing are for the most part an
essential element on making the final product.

Filing is about removing the excess material from the workpiece (see Figure
1).

Figure 1 Basic filing tools

5
We usually mark any surface before we cut it using various tools which helps us
deliver a better product(see Figure 2).

Figure 2 Tools for sheet metal operation

Before drilling we need to do a center punch for the drill pit to align on the metal.

Drilling is making a hole in a wanted area of the metal, were tapping is essentially
threading an already made hole by twisting a thread on that hole (see Figure 3).

6
(b) About sheet metal
operations

Sheets are playing a pivot part in all industries, learning the operations to reshape
these sheets, bend them, cut them, and join them is a necessity for every engineer.
Today we will learn how to perform these operations and how to assemble these
mediocre materials to forge a greater design (see Figure 4) .

2.0 Methodology

(a) - Filing, marking,

cutting, drilling, taping,
and dyeing.

For our application on sheet metal operation and Filing, marking, cutting,
drilling, taping, and dyeing, we adopted several steps for each as it follows:

7
First we took a Mild Steel Plate and clean the surface of it as shown (in the
Figure 5).

Figure 5 Cleaning the surface

Then we done filing upon all the surface to remove the rust and and make it
smoother (as shown in the Figure 6).

Figure 6 Filing operation

8
After that we went to do marking as per drawing using Vernier height gauge
(as shown in Figure 7) .

Figure 7 Taking marking

Next we done punching by Hammer, Anvil and Dot punch (as shown in Figure
8).

9
Figure 8 Dot punching operation

After we done from punching we used a handsaw to cut the corner as shown in
the Figure 9.

Figure 9 Cutting by handsaw

10
Next we headed again to the Vernier to make a line on the center for indicating
the intersection points ( as shown in the Figure 10).

Figure 10 Making center line

by Vernier

Then we done center punch by using Hammer, Anvil, and center punch to guide
the center of the drill and hole center ( as shown in the Figure 11 ).

Figure 11 Center punching

11
After making a center punch we done drilling operation using drilling machine
as shown in the Figure 12 .

Figure 12 Drilling operation

Then we had to cut a rod

Figure 13 using Abrasive
drilling circular saw at specified length (as
operation
shown in the Figure 13).

Figure 14 drilling operation

Figure 15 drilling operation

Figure 13 Using Abrasive saw to cut the rod

12
After cutting we had to prepare the edge using bench grinding (as shown in the
Figure 14).

Figure 14 Using bench

grinding

Then we did Tapping using set of TAPS and Tap holder, bench vice and oil to
create an Internal thread (as shown in the Figure 15).

Figure 15 Tapping operation

13
Finally, we done an external thread cutting on the rod using Die tool and
applying lubricating oil (as shown in Figure 16).

(b)- In sheet metal

Figure 16 Making external

thread
operations.
First, we cut the pieces to right measured length and height using shearing
machine see Figure 17.

Figure 17 Cut the piece by shearing machine

14
Second, we took markings for the bending machine using Vernier height
gauge for one side and joint the points together by ruler (see Figure 18).

Figure 18 Making marking

Third, we striped the corners of the pieces by using Straight hand shear see
Figure 19 .

Figure 19 Cutting the corners

After we took the markings and striped the corners, we now need to bend

15
the work piece using bending machine The work pieces before the welding
See Figure 20
.

Figure 20 Bending the workpiece

After we have finished the work pieces (see Figure 21), we went on cutting
and bending the handle.

Figure 21 Workpiece after bending

16
First, we took markings of the handles for the bending machine using Vernier
height gauge from each side see Figure 22.

Figure 22 Taking marking for the handle

After we took the markings, we now need to bend the workpiece using
bending machine for additional accuracy we used an anvil to make a
somewhat perfect angle for anefficient spot welding (see Figure 23).

Figure 23 Bending the handle

17
After that we can head to the lab and apply the welding process, we welded the
corners and the handles to the work pieces (see Figure 24)

Figure 24 Spot welding operation

Lastly, we welded the pieces together through the Spot-Welding machine (see
Figure 25).

3.0RESULTS AND DISCUSSION

(a) Filing, marking,

cutting, drilling, taping,
and dyeing

After performing Filing, Marking, cutting, drilling, taping, and dyeing the mild
steel late, we reshaped it into a more practical useful product (see Figure 26).
Using multiple tools help us convert the mild steel plate into this shape

cutting taping and dyeing operations

(b) Sheet metal

operations

Taking the ordinary metal sheets and performing several operations on them
converted them from a mere Sheets into Holder with multiple uses. From cutting
the sheets, marking them, bending them, to joining them with Spot Welding
ensuring rigidity and practicality (see Figure 27)

metal operations

Discussion

. Applying various Workshop principles, using multiple tools, machines, and

instruments. And through performing several operations and successive processes
had help us shape these pieces products.

4.0 Conclusions

In the end. We used several tools, instruments, and machines to shape the work
pieces into our vision. We these tools at hands, we can create limitless products
with various properties from all kind of materials

A-Filing, marking, cutting,

drilling, taping, and dyeing

Through filing the metal piece cleansing it from rust, to marking the desired
measurement, then cutting, drilling, taping, and finally dyeing. We brought the
picture in our mind into reality through these processes.

B-Sheet Metal Operations

With metal operations performed on a thin metal Sheet to bend it into the
shape of our product, and joining the metal sheets by the Spot Welding
machine to create a greater design.
