WORLD SLEEP DAY

To celebrate World Sleep Day here are a couple of Q+As to test knowledge in HGs this morning for
some Friday fun!

1. How much sleep do teens need every night?

Answer: 8-10 Hours

Follow on question: Students can have a think about what time they went to bed last night - did they get
their 8-10 hours in?

2. Does lack of sleep effect use of alcohol and other drugs (AOD)?

Answer: Yes! For every hour of sleep you miss at night, there is a 23% increase in the chance of using
AOD

Follow on question: Why do you think this is? (AOD used as a coping tool to manage negative side
effects of reduced sleep)

3. Are sleep and mood linked?

Answer: Yes! Sleep is a mental health superpower! Having enough sleep helps to think clearly and deal
with emotions, stress and challenges. Sleep also improves memory and concentration.
What to learn more about having a better sleep at night? Want some ideas for getting a better night sleep?
Talk to you HG Teacher or GTL about a referral to Anita and Leila (School Nurses). Happy World Sleep
Day!
