Lesson Class #: Class 15 Course Math 5

Title/Focus chart math Mar 29, 2023

PROGRAM OF STUDY OUTCOMES

● 1. Determine the pattern rule to make predictions about subsequent
elements. [C, CN, PS, R, V]

LEARNING OBJECTIVES
At the end of the lesson students will be able to:
1. Identify and extend number patterns: Students will be able to identify and
extend number patterns with increasing complexity, including arithmetic
sequences, geometric sequences, and recursive patterns.
2. Use patterns to solve problems: Students will be able to use their
understanding of patterns to solve mathematical problems, such as finding
missing terms in a sequence or determining the next term in a pattern.
3. Apply understanding of patterns to other mathematical concepts: Students will
be able to apply their understanding of patterns to other mathematical
concepts, such as algebraic expressions, geometry, and data analysis. They
will also be able to recognize and use patterns in real-world situations beyond
the scope of mathematics.
4. Develop critical thinking skills: Through their exploration of sequence
patterning, students will develop critical thinking skills, such as problem-
solving, decision-making, and analysis, which will be useful in a variety of
academic and real-world contexts.

MATERIALS AND EQUIPMENT

● Charts for game

● Worksheet
● Slideshow
● Whiteboards

PREPARATION AND LOGISTICAL CONSIDERATIONS

● Learning styles: Students have different learning styles, and it's essential to
consider them when preparing your lessons. Some students learn better
through visual aids, while others prefer hands-on activities. Therefore, use
different teaching strategies to cater to the diverse needs of your students.
● Classroom environment: Ensure that the classroom is set up in a way that
promotes learning. This includes ensuring that the classroom is well-lit,
adequately ventilated, and free from distractions.
● Materials and resources: Gather all the necessary materials and resources to
aid your teaching. These may include textbooks, workbooks, manipulatives,
calculators, and other instructional materials.
● Differentiation: Students learn at different paces, and some may need extra
help or challenges to stay engaged. Therefore, plan to differentiate your
lessons by providing extra support to struggling students and more challenging
tasks for advanced learners.
● Assessment: Plan to assess students' understanding of the lesson at the end
of the class to determine whether they have achieved the learning objectives.
You may use formative or summative assessments, depending on the learning
outcomes of the lesson.
● Making sure you are able to have all the materials for an effective lesson

PROCEDURE
Introduction Time

● Begin by putting up a dew student “challenging problem” they created 15 min

last class for the student to begin to warm up and figure out what the
specific rule for the pattern is. (on a slideshow)
● Have them grab a white board for each of them and have them be able
to visualized and write down the pattern to make it easier for them to see
and work with (walk around and keep seeing how each student are
doing, and who need helps and who does not)

Body Time

Sorting - In this game or activity it will have students looking at 18 45 min

different charts and sorting them if it is multiplication,
divings, adding, or subtracting. So this can help students
begin to see and understand how the different equations
would look like.
- Breaking them off into partners by picking with popsicle
sticks) they will get the 18 different charts and they will
sort them, then glue them on the paper.
- Then we will go over them as whole group and having
students justify their answers of why it would be a certain
way or not
Conclusion Time

● Wrap up the class by making sure you collected all the papers with names on it 5 min
and having them clean up after themselves
● Then send them out for recess

Assessment
● Formal: this to begin to see where the understanding within the class is, and who may be
struggling.
