1. INTRODUCTION

The purpose of this method statement is to outline the general requirements and precautionary description of
the foundation works for signboard.

SCOPE OF WORK

The scope of work covers the procedures for carrying out all the civil works such as survey works, excavation,
base-preparation, compaction, blinding, shuttering works, re-bar works, concreting, application of weather
proof coating for the casting of signboard foundation

1.1 SURVEY WORKS

 Contractor shall verify all existing coordinates and elevations given on drawings.
 Setting out for the area of excavation will be done as per drawings and project specifications by using
certified calibrated survey instruments.
 Rebar caps/protective caps will be placed on all survey markers/grid pillars and shall be protected
from any sort of disturbances.

1.2 EXCAVATION WORKS

 Only after verification if there are no clashes, excavation can be started.
 Survey work will be carried out before any works is started to mark the graded and limit lines.
 The team will be properly guided about the risk and hazards and their safety requirements will be
ensured.
 Excavation will be carried out using approved equipment such as JCB, excavator and manually using
hand tools, electrical jackhammer, chipping gun etc.
 Excavated material will be removed from site to a Bahrain Govt. approved dump site using a dump
truck.
 The area shall be barricaded with concrete barriers & “Deep Excavation” sign boards are to be placed
around excavated area.
1.3 BLINDING
 Once final excavation level is reached, the area will be properly compacted using a jumping compactor
or a 3-ton roller.
 Compaction test will be carried out after which initial setting out for blinding will be done.
 All work will be done as per approved drawings and specifications.
 The surface will be free from dust, debris or any foreign material before blinding.
 In areas where there is change in level of blinding, infilling & compaction will be done & embankment
will be made.
 Approved release agent is required for blinding will be fixed and thereafter blinding will be done using
approved mix design for blinding.

1.4 FOUNDATION
 Shuttering & rebar work for the footing will be carried out on top of blinding.
 Installed rebar and shutter will be inspected and after approval concrete will be poured.
 Concrete must be an approved mix design.
 Concrete will be delivered to site in trucks from Ready mix plant approved and concrete pump will be
used for pouring of concrete at site.
 Concrete temperature shall not exceed 30C whilst slump as per the approved mix design
 Cube samples shall be tested for compressive strength at independent third party laboratory, 1 for 7
days, 2 for 28 days and 1 for w/c.
 After concrete protection, the area will be backfilled in layers with proper compaction using jumping
compactor and 3-ton roller. Compaction test will be carried out as required.

1.5 REPAIRING WORK

 Repairing Work will be done as per standard and specifications.
 Repairing work will be done with approved material.
 Painting work will be done with approved material & procedures.

1.6 CURING AND CONCRETE PROTECTION

 Curing of concrete shall be done according as per Standards.
 Curing with water shall be done with the use of hessian clothes and to be carried out at least for 7
days from the date of pouring. Make sure hessian clothes are wet at all the times for 14 days from the
date of pouring.
 Concrete protection will be done as per IFC drawings.
 Blinding and concrete below grade level shall be coated with 2 coats of approved bitumen coating.
 Surface dry time for bitumen paint is 30 minutes to 2 hours before laying the polythene sheet.
1.7 FIXING OF SHEETING & SIGN BOARD
 Install steel columns and purlins at 1.5-meter height and 15-meter-long as per the approved drawing.
 Steel columns to be anchored using chemical bolts as per the drawing.
 Sheeting screws must be installed to the purlins as per the drawing.
 Scaffolding must be erected by the approved scaffolder as required.
 Sign board must be installed at locations instructed by the client.
 Scaffolding work will be done by approved sub-contractor

2. HOURS OF WORK
 The work will be executed during day light only, six days a week as per approval and instruction from
ALBA.
 Work will extend beyond above-mentioned time and on holidays only in special circumstances with
the approval of ALBA.
