A Stupid Crocodile
Reading Comprehension
Read the following passage.

One day a crocodile was floating in a river pretending to be a

log while waiting for its prey to come. After a while, a deer

appeared. Since the deer was thirsty, it wanted to drink some

water. At first the deer did not see the crocodile because it lay

quite still near the surface of the water close to the river bank.

However, when the deer came near the river bank, out of the

corner of its eye, it suddenly saw something unusual in the

river.

The deer stepped back at once and said aloud, ‘ls that a log or

a crocodile in the river? Mum says that a log will float

downstream while a crocodile will stay still in one place. I

guess it must be a log.’ Hearing this, the crocodile thought,

‘That’s true! I am a log.’ Not wanting the deer to discover its

real identity, the crocodile quickly floated downstream. With

the disappearance of the crocodile, the deer could now drink

the water safely.
