HUMIYEN
Humiyen which means “to depart” and it won bronze award and got two nominations, viewers choice
and best director in the 5th Sorok Short Film Festival on November 30, 2019 at the Cinema 9, SM City
Manila. It is an Igorot Action Film, Igorot are any of various ethnic groups in the mountains of northern
Luzon, Philippines, all of whom keep, or have kept until recently, their traditional religion and way of
life. In the short film that I watch the language that they are using in the film is Balangao/Balangaw.

In the film it showed us bravery and sacrificing because in the film Patekeng is sick and his father
Ha’lam son of Forchayen and his elder brother Chumerson are trying to find a good path so that they
can get him healed. As they trying to save Patekeng lives they saw Kumme and his Comrades and they
refuse to Ha’lam and his son’sto go in their path and Kumme said that they must go back to their
village, Ha’lam are begging Kumme and said that it is hard as a father that your son is sick but Kumme
said that its is an old joke and they must find another path. Chumerson said to Ha’lam that he will try to
taunt Kumme and his Comrades to that they can go to the shorter path to save Patekeng but his father
Ha’lam said that if he do that they will surely kill him but Chamerson refuse and run to taunt Kumme
and his Comrades. As Chumerson is trying to run to escape he is been surrounded by Kumme’s
Comrades but Chumerson faught and kill Kumme’s Comrades and he run and saw his father Ha’lam
and said Ha’lam said that they must go and it up to him to fight Kumme. but as they are fighting
Ha’lam, Kumme said that because of Chumerson his comrades are now dead and as Ha’lam and
Kumme been fighting his been defeated by Kumme. As Chumerson are trying to protect his brother
Patekeng he said to the creator of life that he is willing to immolate his life for the sake of his brother
Patekeng’s life and after Chumerson said it Patekeng woke up and see his brother is unconscious and
did not moving anymore and he cried because he knew that he’s brother is dead.

The lesson in the movie is we must not be selfish and arrogant but we must be helpful to others
because helping other people can build a happier society for everyone. In the film if Kumme helped
Ha’lam and his sons to go to the nearest path his comrades did not die and they Ha’lam and
Chamerson did not die.
