Why Study Rizal?

Jose Rizal though short-lived but his heroic deeds and writings remains alive until now. And it is
of great importance to study his life, works and writings because he had contributed so much with the
independence of our country and to what state we are today. He is a genius, a leader, a writer and a
hero that will always be remembered.

With the presentation I watched about Rizal, there are two main reasons why we have to study
Rizal. First is, it is mandated by law. Here I realized how Jose Rizal is given importance because he is the
founder of Philippine nationalism and has contributed so much to the standing of our current situation,
that if not because of his bravery we won’t be able to achieve independence because he was the one
who was able to led the Filipinos fight back to the Spaniards. So it is only right to study his life, works
and writings in order for every people of this country will get to learn about his great ideals and also
serves as a tribute for him who devoted his life in shaping Filipino character. The second main reason is,
because of the lesson contained within the course. The lesson that we are going to learn about Rizal is
not only for academic purposes, but because of the lesson we can learn about him that we can surely
relate based on the situation in the society today. As we study about him we will be able to appreciate
what he had done for us, he has fought many battles and he used his knowledge and power through
writing and that these writings are still very useful up until now.

As a student I get to understand why I should study Rizal and I will absorb everything to what I
will learn and apply it. Therefore, it is just right to study Rizal’s life, works and writings. He is our pride
and honor as a Filipino.
