Why do we need to study the life of Rizal?

I remember when I was in Grade 10, we had a Filipino subject where we roleplay every chapter of the el
filibusterismo and need to present and discussed every chapter of that book. On the first day of school
our teacher asked one thing; “Who is Rizal and why do we need to study his life?”.

I would never thought that in college, me and Rizal will face each other once again and the question that
I heard in Grade 10 will be asked to me again. So why do we really need to study the life of Rizal?

I only think of two things why we need to know his life; first is that it is mandatory by the law of the
Philippines and second, we’re going to learn, be inspire, and realized a lot how Rizal give his best for our
beloved country.

Before doing this activity, I decided to do some research to expand my knowledge and to also know how
I will express my idea and opinion on why do we need to learn his life. According to the site called
“Stodocu” the Republic Act 1425 also called as the Rizal law mandated the teaching to the students the
life, works, and writings of Jose Rizal. The purpose of this statute, which was passed in 1956, is to
recommit young people to the ideas of liberty and nationalism, for which our heroes sacrificed their
lives. The second goal is to honor Rizal, our national hero, for dedicating his life to forming the Filipino
character. The third goal is to learn from Rizal's life, works, and writings in order to find inspiration for
one's patriotism.

We study this not only because it is required by law, but also to acknowledge the significance of Rizal's
ideals and teachings in relation to current social conditions and situations, to encourage the application
of such ideals in current social and personal problems and issues, to foster the development of Filipino
youth in all facets of citizenship, and to develop an appreciation and deeper understanding of all that
Rizal fought and died for.

The way Rizal gave everything he can offer to his country shows that he is indeed one of the greatest
living treasures of the Philippines and this is enough reason for us to study the life of our National Hero
José Protacio Rizal Mercado y Alonso Realonda.
