UNIT 4
CONTEXUAL RESEARCH FOR CREATIVE MEDIA PRODUCTION

1
1.1

Identify the contextual research you have been required to carry out for the following projects?
This might include use of images, use of typography, use of sound, existing examples of media products
and roles within the industry itself.

Horror Film Poster (if you started the course in September)

With the horror film poster Paul and Ben got us to make a horror poster that they
designed. This helped me understand what I was going to be doing on the project. What
really helped me was looking at other horror poster and colour theory.

Lost Short Film

I wasn’t there for the making of it but I did edit the lost short film to make each part of
the videos fit in with the next clip.

Blair Witch Trailer Project

What we did for the Blair witch project me and Stacey and Elizabeth when out to go
find a go location to film the clips and what props we were   going to need to use. I did
a lot of research on other horror films trailers and websites to get a good idea of what I
was going to use for my sound, music and for how I was going to lay out my website.
When all of the recordings of use saying are lines and video. I got onto editing of it
together making sure everything clips and sound was in the right place at the right time
to get my Blair witch project to done and on my website

I used colours to make my horror poster look as it was a horror poster by using red,
green, black and white. On both of my poster both of the background photos were
one’s I took myself i want them to be the wood because the woods especially at night
can be a scary place you don’t want what could be around you or what is there. Then on
my landscape poster I got a picture of a broken windows I hand to remove the original
background so you could see the zombie and my background.

Where I only have the clips, my friends made for this project. I had planned out what
one I was going to need and what would fit in with the rest of the videos.

The Blair witch project I have watched the trailer multiple times and having a
breakdown to write down shot type, props, costumes, location, title and the sound I had
picked help my knowledge of the Blair witch project trailer. I have also looked at other
horror films trailer to have more of an idea how the cause tension for seen for locations
and characters.

2.2

Identify examples within your own work of where your research and application of
contextual knowledge was successful?

I’ve done some primary research by going out to find a good location to make the lost short film and
the Blair witch project. I also did a lot of secondary research by looking at other websites, trailer, and
posters by doing this research it helped me with my knowledge of the work of all 3 projects.

What do you feel you have learned from this process that you could carry forward for
future projects?

I learned how to get sounds and how to get my own sounds that I can make. Also, I’ve learned how
edit video timing and placement and how change the volume and how to make it sound as if it was on
tv or the radio. I’ve so much from all of the project and I’m going to be using all information I have
learned for my new later projects.
