CONTEXUAL RESEARCH FOR CREATIVE MEDIA PRODUCTION

Identify the contextual research you have been required to carry out for the following projects?
This might include use of images, use of typography, use of sound, existing examples of media products
and roles within the industry itself.

Horror Film Poster (if you started the course in September)

One example of research that I conducted for my Horror Poster was viewing
posters from previous students’ projects to gather inspiration and ideas for my
own poster. Another method that I used was looking at actual horror movie
posters from years passed to get a feel for the classic and modern posters and
convey the style I wanted to commit to the most.
Lost Short Film
One method of research that I pursued for my Short Film project was
searching for similar projects online to get an idea of how I wanted my short
film to be. Another example of research that I used was looking for ways to
use the word ‘Lost’ to base the plot for the short film on.
Blair Witch Trailer Project
One research technique I took the opportunity to use for the Blair Witch
Trailer Project was understanding the various shot types and applying them
the same way the original trailer for the film had used into my own trailer.
Another use of research for the trailer that I took advantage of was once again
viewing previous projects similar to mine from past students and the lecturers
themselves.

Identify examples within your own work of where your research and application of contextual
knowledge was successful?

The project in which I had used the most contextual knowledge was for the Horror Film Poster because I
have made posters for fake films in the past and the simpler nature of the project made the execution of
it much easier to do.

What do you feel you have learned from this process that you could carry forward for future projects?

I’ve learned mostly about how to use Adobe products like Photoshop and Premier and will be able to
easily apply these skills and learn new ones in the future to do with the software which will help me to
be able to create better and higher quality products.
