Chemical Versus Physical Change Reading Questions

Name: Christen Nickson

1. Physical changes are usually about physical states of matter.
2. Chemical changes happen when atomic bonds are broken or created during
a Chemical Reaction.
3. Why is stepping on a soda can a physical change? You only changed the
shape of the can, the energy of the can did not change ,and no chemical
bonds were created or broken.
4. Why was the change not a change in the state of matter? The energy in the
can did not change.
5. When you melt ice you have a physical change because you add energy.
6. What is a phase change in your own words? When a substance changes
between solid, liquid or gas.
7. When you increase the temperature in ice you are creating a physical
change because why? Changing temperature causes physical changes
and no chemical bonds were created or broken
8. Chemical changes happen on a much smaller scale.
9. Most chemical changes are not visible.
10.Why can you not see most chemical changes? The chemical change as
hydrogen peroxide becomes water cannot be seen since both liquids are
clear.
11.The bubbles when hydrogen peroxide mixes with blood is showing a
chemical changes.
12.Melting sugar is a physical change while burning sugar makes it a chemical
change.
13.Oxygen reacts with the sugar and the chemical bonds are broken.
14.Rust happens when iron (Fe) is exposed to oxygen.
15.When oxygen mixes with metals this is called: oxidation
16.Some chemical changes can happen over a series of steps.
17. Isomers means same number of atoms but a different combination
18.Isomers have atoms bonded in different orders.
19. Write a summary of the main idea of the article.
The main idea of this article was that physical changes and
chemical changes are very different and happen on different
molecular levels. They also have different properties. Phase
changes contribute to physical changes as chemical bonds
contribute to chemical changes. the article informs the reader
on both topics very well and the images contribute .
