March 29th Teaching Notes

2nd Brinker
Body Percussion
● Come right in and get attention somehow
○ Class, Class
○ If you can hear my voice clap twice, etc.
● Great reminders of what to do during
● Use your strong voice! This class has a lot of energy and needs that
Hello Class
● Love how you tried it again when they messed up and you took it up a couple of pitches
to help!
Ham and Eggs
● Reviewed the song sitting
● Reviewed the song standing up and adding actions.
○ This part you added more energy and made a difference!
○ Use less “Can we start” and more “We will start from the beginning” (this is
difficult to change. I still do it too!)
○ Awesome use of rehearsal skills to get them to not say “Ham” on the rest.
● Good energy to introduce Team Ham and Team Eggs. Way to sell it!
● The explanation worked well on how to sing it split
○ Try to add more participation for the kids. They are standing a lot. Could we add
something to change that
● Splitting the class down the middle
○ Great knowing the names of who to split!
○ Where should they stand when in a group? Maybe doing a team cheer or hyping
up their team somehow for next time?
○ Find a transition that works best to get back to spots. “You will be on your spot in
5, 4, 3, 2, 1” and move on right when you get to 1
● Would you rather
○ Great explanation on how to work it. They did so well and quiet for the first 20
minutes, it made since they were more chatty for this. Allowing some talk time
could work here.
○ Take instruments that are flying in the air.
○ Pause the video to get attention if you need them
2nd Burch
● Body Percussion
○ By the 2nd time they do it, no need to explain, just start the video.
● Hello Class
○ Forgot to do it and that's why the transition felt caotic.
● Ham and Eggs
○ Great pace! Notice how you did the actions and they just followed along without
you having to teach it. Nice!
○ Less “Can I teach you” more “We are now going to…” or “We will now do this…”
“I will” statements
○ Before starting the song, make a statement like “I am looking for star musicians
standing quiet, tall and ready to sing” that will eliminate the talking before you
start.
○ Great adapting to a class that learns the songs a bit quicker
● Would you Rather
○ Great transition with the count down. Worked well! Maybe say “class class” when
you get to 0?
○ Add more positive notes like “I noticed how ____ is sitting quietly on his spot
ready to go” “Thank you ______ for not touching your egg shaker”
○ Be firm with the egg shakers. If you hear it take it and give a little later
