REACTION PAPER NO. 3 MOTIVATION PEOPLE IN ORGANIZATION

Surprisingly, I love this part of the topic for this course, motivation on
people in the workplace. Yes, not only the reporter’s material but I also
read a lot of articles regarding this topic, but they are pretty ideal, and
certainly many of us cannot relate what’s being suggested as tips to
motivate employees if we are also employees that are positioned in the
middle management.
Allow me to present first the ideal tips I read in motivating people in
the workplace if we are in the middle or upper management position: set
realistic goals, promote positive self-esteem, provide employee recognition,
use training and development for motivation, provide autonomy to high
performing employees, celebrate holidays and create traditions, promote
personal growth and work life balance, be flexible and open-minded, and
among others, it’s a litany of tips for motivating people.
In my opinion, before a middle manager like myself promotes the
tips mentioned, I believe that I should be enjoying these first, as the saying
goes “ you cannot give what you do not have”. I would like to put myself in
the shoes of a lot of workers below management level. Unfortunately, in the
Philippine setting, larger percentage of workers are not highly motivated
because of a lot of factors. Many of us are going to our workplace daily in a
mechanical manner. We do our job, consume the eight hour job
requirement, we go home and the following day, we do it all-over again. We
are like robots, we move according what has been programmed by the
upper management, more likely the CEO of the company, and mind you,
this is very true in a lot of private companies. But do we complain? The
answer is NO! because we are deeply thinking that we need the job to pay
our bills, to put food on the table and to survive , no matter how we hate it
or the management. It just sad that our workers are deprived of the
motivations to keep moving and not hating their current situation.
On the other hand, the regular government workers can have the
opportunity to enjoy motivational privileges because everything is
presented according to law and rights are mandated by the Philippine labor
law, any violation thereof, the employee can have the opportunity to be
heard. The upper management in a government agency is to strictly follow
government’s mandate.
Being in the middle management, as the immediate superior of my
colleagues, I must be motivated myself so I can radiate that positive vibe to
them. I hope I can still do this despite the difficulty we are all facing due to
this pandemic.
