M2000 RMS Module, for remote control of Mach2000
It is possible to check, programme, command and control Mach2000 from any distance via GSM or via ethernet (TCP/IP).
To do that you need the M2000 RMS Module (Remote Management System for Mach2000).
The peer to peer GSM system allows you to communicate with Mach2000 and the telephone lines (GSM) with a Personal
Computer connected to the telephone net.
The M2000 RMS module and the Client PC must be equipped with a GSM modem to connect to the network and to permit
the data exchange between the Mach2000 (Settings, electrical quantity, energy meter data, etc..) and the connected
Client PC (and viceversa). M2000 RMS is connected to Mach2000 via a RS232 serial port.
The M2000 RMS also has an integrated energy analyzer and provides all the measurements and records all the data on a
specific memory buffer. All those data and info are manageable with common PC software, like Excel®, and it’s possible
to create charts and/or execute other calculations with those figures.
M2000 RMS will regularly query the system (every 15 minutes) and will record that data on the dedicated memory so that
you can have up to 3 months of data on memory board. When on that memory there is non more space, the software will
overwrite the oldest records (first in first out memory).
On M2000 RMS it is possible to set on the auto-download function; that way the M2000 RMS will periodically and
automatically call the Client PC and download a defined period records. Moreover, in case of alarm on Mach2000, it is
possible to have from the M2000 RMS an SMS (Short Message System) to a maximum of five different mobile phones
with the alarm notification (only in the case of GSM configuration).
The connection is very simple in both cases, but in the GSM you must check if the site where Mach2000 is located is
covered by the GSM network (and if there is a strong enough signal). The SIM on the GSM Modems must be a M2M type
(Machine to Machine or data SIM).

GSM Connection

The connection via Ethernet ask for a cross type connector. That connection is absolutely free of cost and faster than the
GSM one.

LAN Connection

On the Client PC there is a dedicated and user-friendly software (included) with which the user can manage in real time
all the data and physical quantities of the electrical plant and the Mach2000 settings.
M2000 RMS is also equipped with a astronomical clock, so you can turn the plant on and off the plant when effectively
there is the sunset and the sunrise (related to the latitude e longitude of the Mach2000 location).

Installation

Contents of the installation CD

The installation disc contains some programs and components of the operating system (Microsoft
Windows family) comprising the following:-

Windows .NET Framework: Windows. NET Framework: Windows is a component essential to the
implementation of several programs developed with .NET technology.
including Stila Cfg Energy Utility. The setup process checks for that component
on the PC and will install if necessary.

SQL Server Express: As mentioned in the introduction, the application maintains a registry of
devices and data associated with each of them. In order to achieve this the
program utilises an SQL database server. This is a prequisite of the program
and, in this case, the setup program automatically checks for its presence on
the target PC if necessary and ensures its installation.

SQL Management Studio Express Optional program and not necessary for normal usage of the application.
Allows some advanced features for managing databases (database backup,
user management). The setup program does not consider this application, the
installation of which, is at the discretion of the user and is done manually by
running the Setup program from the folder on the CD SQL_MSE.

Starting the Stila Energy Cfg Utility programmme

Insert the CD into your computer and wait a moment until a window opens showing that installation is
starting. If this does not happen then through the "My Computer" open the CD and double click on
Setup:

If the component. NET Framework is not detected on the machine, before installation, the user is
prompted to accept the license (Figure 1). Accept to continue.

Getting Started

There are procedures to undertake prior to launching the program for the first time. The installation
sequence as has been seen automatically handles the installation of programs that use the application.
However, some configuration options of SQL Server Express are only accessible through the special
program SQL Server Configuration Manager and cannot modified in any way from Stila Cfg Energy Utility.
In this case the application relies on some basic services to SQL Server Express to be activated manually by
the user before it is launched for the first time.
To do this, launch the SQL Server Configuration Manager on the machine hosting the database and allow
the dialog box to appear, after which select "SQL Server 2005 Services" section on the left (Fig 16)
.

Fig 15

Having done this the right side of the window displays the current status of key services to SQL: SQL Server
(SQLEXPRESS) and SQL Server Browser.
The desired state of services is shown in Fig 16 (State = "Running" and Start Mode = "automatic"). If there
are other states these need to be changed by clicking with the right mouse button on each service and
choosing "Properties". This will open a new window (Fig 17).
Select "Service" and set the Start Mode parameter to the value "automatic". Repeat for each service.
Check at the end of the settings that the status of both services is shown in Fig 16.

Fig 16

Manually start each service if necessary. Right-click each service whose state is not "running" then "Start"
menu shown in Fig 18.

Fig 17

13
Stila Energy Cfg Utility User manual

If the above operations are carried out properly the services necessary for our application are ready for use.
It should however be noted that some versions of operating systems (in this case Windows XP) have
restrictions on how to start these services.
In particular, Windows Firewall may block functionality.
To avoid this it is possible to incorporate these services in the list of firewall exceptions. With a few simple
steps you can "enable" these services in the operating system:
, select "Security Center"
which will open a new window
select the "Exceptions" (Fig 19)
\ Microsoft SQL Server \ 90 \ Shared"
sqlbrowser.exe then select and confirm.
\ Microsoft SQL Server \ MSSQL.1 \
MSSQL \ Binn" and then select and confirm sqlservr.exe
reboot the PC for changes to take effect
.

Stila Energy Cfg Utility User manual

Database Selection
Some features of the program (personal devices, monitoring, processing data) require the presence of an
SQL database. Therefore, the first time the application is started the user is prompted to provide the path
of the reference database, displaying the following dialog box (Fig 21).

Fig 20

The selection of the database is done by following some simple steps since the application can
automatically detect all SQL Server available names that are present locally on your PC and local network.
This setup step is carried out differently depending on whether you have previously installed a specific
database for your application or if it has yet to be created by the application itself.

DATABASE EXISTS

It 's often a typical case where the SQL server runs on a reference machine in a local network and the
application is installed on a separate machine connected to the same network.
In this case it is possible that another installation of Stila Cfg Energy Utility (on another machine) has
already created an appropriate database on that server and you want to reuse it, also for this installation
on the current machine.
In searching for an existing database the application provides the pull down menu "SQL Server" (Fig 22) the
list of discovered servers. The user must then carry out these simple steps described below:
contains the database (Fig 22)

tton "Connect to Server" (Fig 23)

16
Stila Energy Cfg Utility User manual

Fig 21

Fig 22

After a short while the application provides the results of its search and, if the selected server has been
detected one or more databases (compatible with the application) will appear in the dropdown menu
"Database Name" (Fig 24).
At this point you can choose one of the names of the database from that menu and press the button
"Confirm" to continue.

17
Stila Energy Cfg Utility User manual

Fig 23

On successive start ups of the application this selection will remain valid and the input from the user will no
longer be required.
.

DATABASE DOES NOT EXIST

In this case both on the machine in use and in the SQL server on the network there is no database
compatible with the application. Whenever a server is selected (Fig 22) and connected to it (Fig 23), the
application will detect the absence of a compliant database showing an error message (Fig 25).

Fig 24

18
Stila Energy Cfg Utility User manual

In this case, the application is still able to create a database (empty) on the server selected by the user
Once you have connected to it with the appropriate log in info you can simply by pressing the "New
Database" and entering your desired database name in the new dialog box create such a database.

Fig 25

After pressing the button "Confirm", the database is created and a message will confirm the success of the
operation (Fig 27).
As before, the application will consider the information valid for all subsequent reboots.

PRESENTATION SCREEN

Having introduced all the basic information described in the preceding paragraphs, the application
proceeds with the start and shows a dialog box with a brief animation at the end of which the version
number of the software is shown (Fig 28).
This display can be disabled for all subsequent launches respectively by pressing the "skip" and selecting
"Disable Presentation."

Main Pages

On this main screen you can quickly access the pages to communicate with the Mach 2000 device. The
selection of a page is done simply by clicking on the 'tab' that contains the name of the page.
In general, these pages allow you to program and / or read operating parameters of the particular MACH
2000 panel. Obviously a physical communication link with the panel is a necessity
Some pages are said to allow On-Line because they only allow data acquisition, mainly electrical
measurements and calculations of various kinds, from the Mach 2000 panel. This type of data acquisition,
once initiated by the user, is continuous and occurs with a regular time interval (this parameter is in
milliseconds and is configurable via the "Period" shown in Fig 29).
The opening pages shown on opening the program for each type of device, coincide precisely with these
screens "On Line".

21
Stila Energy Cfg Utility User manual

SET UP PAGES

This allows the user to send or request a set up of the principal parameters: run program, startup
parameters, and set up parameters.
On this and subsequent pages on the dialogue for parameters, the values must be within a well-defined
range and a hint is provided to guide the user to insert of congruent (valid) values. The guide is an
informational message that is activated by moving the mouse cursor on the name of the parameter you
want to set.
In any case, the application reports an error in the case of values not acceptable in the range parameter

Fig 29

Within the same page the parameters are subdivided into categories that make it easy to use. In this way
you can get or set the parameters of a single category without changing any other data on the page.
For example, with obvious advantages, you can change the program without setting operation parameters
or Startup Configuration.

22
Stila Energy Cfg Utility User manual

This page includes all the parameters involved in the operation of the device at constant voltage or voltage
bands. For this reason there are two distinct groups, each dedicated to the type of operation required.
In the case of program time slots these can be set up to 12 bands each having the following characteristic
parameters:
Start time: the first band will open at 00:00, the next starting at the close of the previous band
End Time: The last band set to be closed at 24:00
Voltage regulation: the value of applied voltage in the range selected
Off load: the load is turned on by default (checkbox unchecked)
The minimum duration of each band is 10 minutes.

page

This page includes all the parameters involved in the arrangements for constant light intensity or brightness
to a required timetable. As for the page described above, two distinct groups were created, each dedicated
to the type of operation required.

In the case of program time slots these can be set up to 12 bands each having the following characteristic
parameters:
Start time: the first band will open at 00:00, the next starting at the close of the previous band
End Time: The last band set to be closed at 24:00
Brightness: brightness value applied in the range selected
Off load: the load is turned on by default (checkbox unchecked)

The minimum duration of each band is 10 minutes.

This page allows the setting and / or reading of the parameters of the system, time set up of the Mach 2000
panel of the instrument and the parameters necessary for the proper functioning of the astronomical clock.
The two clocks will be set completely independently.
In the section for the system clock is a checkbox ("date and time to be PC") that allows you to set date and
time of the Mach 2000 panel using data from current PC clock.

Fig 32

The astronomical clock can determine the exact time of sunrise and sunset, through which you can turn
off and turn on artificial lighting. Based on your latitude, longitude and distance from GMT, Mach2000RMS
will independently calculate the hours of sunrise and sunset based on the current day. Two separate offsets
will allow the advancement or delay of both the start and shutdown time of the system

Stila Energy Cfg Utility User manual

SMS page

Mach 2000 devices are able to notify certain events via an SMS message type that contains the codes
associated with each device.
On this page you can set and / or request the phone numbers of destination of these diagnostic messages.
Up to 5 numbers can be assigned.
There is also a button to verify the proper functioning and ability of the SMS system to send messages and
the validity of the destination numbers. By pressing the button "Send SMS Test" the mechanism is activated
and the tool sends the message to the numbers that have been assigned (Fig 33).

Mach 2000 - On Line Mach 2000

The size and information contained on this page are read by the parameters inherent in the Mach panel in
real time and are not definable by the user.
These electrical measurements in general or diagnostic information are provided by the panel on explicit
request by the Cfg application.
Of particular importance is the diagnostic information present on this page: alarm status and condition of
the GSM modem (optional for the device).
A section devoted to the current data operation completes the overview of the status of the panel.
The reading of this information is initiated by the operator by pressing the read key and continues until the
stop button is pressed.
At each cycle of data reading, all the information is updated on this page.
The operator can also set the delay between a read cycle and the next by changing the parameter "Period."
The default value is calibrated to obtain a correct refresh parameter (Fig 34).

Default Connection Settings

Clicking on a communication mode from the menu in Figure 37 leads to simple dialogs for the
corresponding settings.
For the Ethernet-like dialog boxes are so easy to not need any explanation (this window allows you to input
the IP of the device).
In the case of GSM, connection should instead set up a session RAS (Remote Access Service) by default. To
do this click with the mouse on GSM obtaining the appearance of a new item ("Select RAS) as shown in
Figure 38.

Fig 38

Clicking on it opens a new dialog box shown in Fig 39.

In the drop-down menu at the top the names of RAS previously set or already on your PC will appear.
Under normal conditions, when starting the application for the first time, this list will be empty and a new
RAS will need to be created (before this make sure that your PC has already has a GSM modem installed)

Fig 39

Please note that all the parameters on this screen are read-only and cannot be edited. However, if you
want to edit an existing RAS select it and press "Edit". This will start an editing screen.

30
Stila Energy Cfg Utility User manual

If there are no RAS click on the "New" button and wait for it to appear as shown in the window depicted in
Fig 40.
Select the first type and continue.
In the next two screens only 2 settings are requested:

ill appear in the list of Fig 39

Fig 40

If the computer in use is only avail;able to a single GSM then the installation stops here otherwise you must
select the folder "Network Connections" and the Windows RAS just created will allow selection of the
modem from the list available.

Remember:
1. The logon credentials for connections to all remote devices are fixed and not changeable:
User Name: stila
Password: energy

2. As we shall see later, the program is able to connect to a device described in the database using all of its
connection parameters. However, if you select "Use Default Connection" (see Settings), the program will
attempt to communicate through the parameters set in the submenu of the "default connection".

Stila Energy Cfg Utility User manual

Menu Panel Properties

This menu takes the name of the type of device and is selected as shown in Figure 41.

Fig 41

Identification Data
A click on the "identification data" opens the dialog box Fig 42.
In this window a setting can be sent only after taking a reading from the panel (this only after the padlock
next to the button "Set" button is released and becomes the same and running).
Manufacturer parameters and apparatus type are read-only are not editable
The correct values of the CT ratio and size are set at the factory and can only be changed after entering a
password provided upon authorization.
An incorrect setting can lead to serious malfunctions or even failures in the same equipment, and for this
reason, you cannot change the selected parameters.

Figura 42

As can be seen, the Ethernet parameter settings of the panel can be set up (or read) regardless of
everything else as two separate buttons have been provided for two separate buttons, one for the sending
and one for reading parameters.

32
Stila Energy Cfg Utility User manual

With a click on the link "calibration settings" you can access the two sets of parameter that will allow
you to obtain a precise ratio in order to calculate the energy savings. The dialog box that allows you to do
this is shown in Fig 43.

This window contains two pairs of parameters (Vmax, Pmax) and (Vmin, Pmin). The first pair represents the
values of voltage and power corresponding to a voltage applied to the load equal to the supply network
values.
To obtain such the output voltage of Mach2000 is set to a value close to that of the supply network,
after you read the page on line voltage and power output.
Bringing the output voltage to the minimum value of Mach2000 programming, you can still read the page
on-line values of the same fields that correspond to the second group this time (Vmin, Pmin).
Placing the correct values in the boxes and pressing "Set" the coefficient used by the system for calculating
the energy savings is obtained

There are two operations that facilitate the storage of such diagnostic information: the first is saving to a
text file of all fields on this window (which can be activated with the button that looks like a floppy disk),
the second allows the printing of the file (the button with printer icon). The print button is only active if you
have already performed a rescue operation on an information file.

Download Firmware

Upgrading the firmware on the device.

To do this you need the binary file containing the new firmware (provided exclusively by the manufacturer)
this path must be inserted (with a search operation manual) in the box preceded by the word "File" (Fig
45).
The download to the device starts with a click on the "Start" button and a progress bar will show the status
of completion of the process.
All fields on this window are read-only and the information contained in them are particularly noteworthy:
First, the identification string of releases that is being downloaded into the device. The number of "Packets
Sent" a count of the blocks have already been sent to the device firmware, while the "Packet Number"
total is the total number of packets when the download is finished.
If some packages were to be lost in this process (which is likely only for a GSM connection), the system is
able to ask them to send only missing packets. Only if the download has completed successfully (with all
packages properly received), will the device reboot and start with the new program.

Fig 45

If the download should take place via GSM an new field appears in the window indicated by "Tx Delay".
It represents the delay between sending one packet of binary file and the next.
A delay has already been set automatically, so you should modify this parameter only if there is an
insufficient strong GSM signal or when the GSM signal is not sufficiently stable, or has repeatedly failed
during the download operation (performed with the parameter value by default).

acquisition of manual data from the panel/device:

Fig 54

In the drop-down menu the referenced months are shown. As stated the user can select one at a time
(Fig 55)

Fig 55

Other choices are available to the user (Fig 56):

egory of measurement: daily or detailed or both
Specific period: only possible if the detailed data has been included and is set as a start date and end date

Fig 56

Data acquisition begins when the user clicks on the button "Read".
The length of this operation will depend on the type and scale of the data selected and the period of
interest. During acquisition data is stored directly in the database.
When the operation is complete a confirmation message will appears.

Database Analysis of Data

This can be done at any time and does not require connection with the device as the data used is that data
contained in the database and which has been stored in a file format fully compatible with Microsoft Excel
(xls) .
By starting this function you will see the window shown in Fig 57.

Fig 57

Even here you can choose the type of data to extract (daily, detail or both) and the reference period can be
set arbitrarily by the user.
By clicking on the button "Save and Check Out" you can choose the path and filename to save the list of
data that has been analysed and collated

Programme Activities

If one wants to continuously monitor the profile of the data (be it detail or day) the method of manual
capture of the same is somewhat cumbersome and inefficient.
Moreover, the manual acquisition only allows to one device at a time and is rather costly in situations
where multiple devices are installed.
One can automate the process of acquiring data and storing it in the database simply by programming the
activities devoted to this purpose.
Activity is characterized by:

data
daily,monthly,weekly

-time: When data collection should commence

: If enabled, this option allows you to request the tool detailed data

the choice of frequency opens other selection possibilities.

Monthly:-Proceed with the choice of start date

y of the week

The main window of the management of activities is shown in Fig 58

.

Fig 58

All activities defined in the previous sessions were collected in the drop-down menu that appears beside
the message "Task Name".
Selecting a task from this menu the summary of all the characteristic parameters become visible at the
bottom of the window: ie the devices, start-time, including detail, license, schedule (and any parameters
dependent on the latter). All this data cannot be edited in this dialog window. If you need to change one or
more parameters relating to the activity you need to click on the button 'Edit Activities' via the window
shown in Fig 59.

44

Fig 59

Now all of the parameters can be changed including the list of devices that can be addressed are shown in a
new window (Figure 60) activated by clicking on "Select Devices.

Fig 60

Next to each device there is a checkbox that allows the inclusion or exclusion (with a click) the device in the
activity. Press "Confirm" to save and exit.

Adding a new activity. This is similar to the one just described because, as we will see the dialog boxes
involved are virtually the same.
In fact, pressing the button "Add Activities" (Fig 58) opens a window similar to the one shown in Fig 59 with
the difference that this one will be empty (Fig 61)

45

Fig 61

After setting the parameters of this window you proceed with the placement of the collection of devices
you intend to interrogate with the activity required. Pressing the button "Select Device" you get the view of
all devices in the reference database (obviously not all checkboxes are selected as in Fig 62).

Fig 62

Click on each device you want to include and press "Confirm" to exit and save the list.
If you do not want to make changes press "Confirm" in the current window (Fig 62).
The application is able to manage the queuing of multiple tasks simultaneously, the order of execution,
however, remains to queue (device activities with the same start time are started in alphabetical order).
From the main window of activity (Fig 58) one can also delete the selected task in the popup menu or start
an activity at once regardless of its scheduling parameters.
The operations carried out during the execution of an activity are summarized, for diagnostic purposes, in
scheduler.log file, created in the Data subfolder of the installation folder of the program (default: c: \
StilaEnergy \ Data).

Stop Activities in Operation

Allows you to abort an activity in progress. In this case, the data acquisition program will be executed only
partially. For this purpose it is useful to note that the execution of a task is notified in the status bar of the
main window as shown in Fig 63.

Status Bar

In Fig 53 we have already seen how the status bar shows some identifying information (name and type) of
the currently selected device.
We have also seen indications that appear on this bar on the performance of activities of device
interrogation (Fig 63).
Another important display appears on the right edge of the bar when the application started a connection
of this type and RAS is active (meaning that the properties of the selected device has specified the type of
communication is GSM). In a situation like this bar is as in Fig 64.

Fig 64

The connection involves a call by the GSM application and it is obviously necessary if the device has been
configured for this type of communication (modem installed).
On the first attempt to address the device, (activated by pressing any button "Read" or "Set" in the various
pages of the program), the application automatically performs the RAS connection, after which, if
successful, proceeds with addressing device.
The closure of the SAR, which puts an end to the GSM call is delegated to the user
Under RAS active, clicking with the right mouse button on the status bar displays a heading "Disconnect"
(Fig 65) that enables log off.
When disconnect has occurred, the bar takes the form shown in Fig 66.

While the connection is active, clicking the right mouse button on the icon on the Windows taskbar, shown
in Fig 67 produces a diagnostic window with data from the connection itself (Fig 68).
