CHAPTER 1

INTRODUCTION

Background of the study

There is a lot of history and background on cyber bullying since it has been around for

a very long time. Cyber bullying takes place when people use technology in order to harm

others. “The terms cyberbullying and cyberbully are attributed to Canadian educator Bill

Belsey. Founder and president of the Bullying org Canada Incorporated, and leader of anti-

bullying efforts” (cyberbullying). This cyberbullying has been affecting people for a very

long time and can hurt people aging from young teens all the way to adults. “Methods of

cyberbullying can include: threats; sexual harassment; spreading lies; impersonation in order

to post materials to damage a reputation, destroy relationships, or cause other trouble; making

someone the subject of ridicule or scorn in discussion forums, chat rooms or websites; the

posting of compromising photos taken without the victims knowledge or permission, or the

editing of photos to embarrass or impugn, such as pasting the victims face on a nude bady;

and developing a person’s confidence in order to trick him or her into divulging secrets or

embarrassing information.” (cyberbullying). All of these methods are examples of what is

currently taking place in today’s society. There is a lot of history and background on cyber

STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM

This research seeks to determine the cyber bullying involvement of grade 11 students

of Ipil National High School S.Y. 2022-2023

Specifically, this study seeks to answer the following questions:

1. What are the factors why grade 11 students in Ipil National High School

involved in cyber bullying?

2. How cyber bullying affects students’ physical health?


Significance of study

This study will try to establish the cause and effect of cyber bullying to students. The

findings of this study will be a great help of the following:

School administrators

As the school principal, it will guide him to help the students to realize the importance

of their health and the possible effects of cyber bullying. Further, more it will guide him to

make programs and instruction so that students will not involve in physical bullying.

For teachers

As a teacher, this study will help them to understand why students are involved cyber

bullying

For parents

As a parents, it will help them guide their children that cyber bullying is not good in

our society and it can harm in individuals.

For students

It will help them to realize that cyber bullying is bad to their ability and they realize to

themselves that effects of cyber bullying slowly damage their health through the years of

their living.
SCOPE AND DELIMITATION OF THE STUDY

This study was conducted to determine the cyber bullying involvement of grade 11

students of Ipil National High School. This study sought to answer the factors why grade 11

students at Ipil National High School involved in cyber bullying, the possible solution of

school to solve the problem and how cyber bullying effects the physical health of the

student’s involvement.

The subject of the study was the seven section of grade 11 HUMANE students of the

school. The study was conducted on first semester S.Y. 2022-2023. The data will be gathered

though questionnaire checklist to determine the necessary information to answer the research

question.
CHAPTER II

THEORETICAL AND CONCEPTUAL FRAMEWORK

Review of related literature

Norman Wright (2005), in his study of the Cyberbullying, found out that cyberbullying

is a crime that was held in via internet. It is also a kind of prank to other people or victims.

The findings of his study revealed that in cyberbullying, the victims are very exposed to

media or internet while face to face bullying was just the people around them that can only

see. He said that it’s not just the presence of the emotions that bothers them, it’s their

intensity. He added that during a trauma they may experience many kinds of emotions, and

perhaps some feelings you’ve never experienced before and this trauma could be cured by the

assistance of their family and friends.

According to Alex (2012, November, 13) How to Stop Bullying Phil Star, p D4,

bullying has evolved into a social behaviour that is the product of race-to-the-top-of-the-

social-ladder mentality to overcome bullying, tolerance and respect should be norm and

everyone should realize that it is not only noble, but that it is a basic expectation of

everybody to be sensitive to others’ feelings. Especially those who do not act and behave like

the majority

According to Queena N Lee-Chua (2012), dealing with bullying in School Phil Daily

Inquirer, p Z3, bullying is a serious matter that results in hurt feelings or broken friendships,
even physical injury and death. She added that if bullying cannot be controlled by authorities,

then changing schools would be the most sensible opinion

Vanessa Rogers (2010), in her study of Cyberbullying cyber bullying is behind

emotional rather than physical threats She found out that cyberbullying starts with a joke and

it can take place at any time She also added that cyberbullying should be covered by anti-

bullying policies in school.
