Quejada, Wenche L.

There was a girl named Blair, a cashier at a minimarket in the province of

Taguig. She is beautiful, family-oriented, and the breadwinner. One day there
comes this man named Axel, who is a visitor from Manila. He is the only son of a
prosperous business family and is spoilt, good-looking, and intelligent. During his
arrival in the province, he was so thirsty and hungry that he looked for a store to
help himself. He searched everywhere, not too far from where he was standing,
and found a minimarket where Blair worked. Because he was so hungry at that
time, he rushed toward the market and unknowingly left his package there. While
he was inside, he noticed that the line payment was long, so he tried to get the
line from the people in front of him. Blair observed what Axel was doing, so she
told Axel to go back to the end of the line. Axel felt embarrassed by what he had
done. When it was his turn to pay, he opened the item and drank it to annoy the
girl. Now cousin of Axel came, and to his surprise, his cousin hugged Blair
instead of him. Without his knowledge, his cousin Dorothy was a childhood friend
of Blair. Dorothy introduced his cousin Axel to Blair, and they both felt
uncomfortable with each other. Their first meet-up doesn’t go well. Blair is always
by Dorothy’s side wherever they go; she used to stay at Dorothy’s place way
back when they were children.
Dorothy is having a party at their house three days later, and she invited
Blair. Since her friend Dorothy was so busy entertaining other guests, Dorothy’s
cousin Axel came over to make the first move and say sorry for what had
happened during their first meeting until they got to know each other. After that
party, they became friends; Axel and Blair used to go out together, and the boy
always visited Blair at her work. Axel’s stay in the province lasted for 6 months;
they became lovers and enjoyed each other’s company. Now, Axel’s parents
have arrived from Amsterdam. Axel asks Blair to meet his parents at a dinner
party. Then Blair accepted his request since she also wanted to know his parents
well. She was so excited and full of expectations, but at the same time, she was
nervous. She can’t even think straight and is worried about what to wear. She felt
a little afraid that if his parents don’t like her, she can’t afford to lose Axel.
Axel escorted her inside the room; she was nervous and could feel her
knees shaking. Axel’s mother stared at her from head to toe and asked, “Who is
she?” Then Axel introduced her to everyone. All were silent. The dinner was
done immediately. After two days, Axel received the news that his father was
hospitalized. He needed to go back to Amsterdam to finish what his father had
started. So, she told Blair that he would be gone for days and told her that he just
needed to finish some business matters and right after he will come back and
they will get married.
Without the boy’s knowledge, he was not just going there for his father’s
unfinished business but also to get married. Since the company was in
bankruptcy, he needed to marry the girl he was engaged to, a girl from a very rich
family, to save their business.
At first, Blair and Axel could still communicate well; they always called
every night, reassuring each other that everything would be all right. But as the
months passed by, Blair noticed that Axel was not contacting her; she felt like he
was always busy, and every time she tried to call him, she was rejected. Two to
three months passed without bringing closure to what had happened to them.
Blair asked her friend Dorothy if Axel was all right, but Dorothy was making her
calm and giving her the assurance that Axel is always good. One day during her
leisure time, she saw a familiar man wearing a tuxedo and married to a beautiful,
elegant woman. She knew for herself that it was the man she loved. It was Axel,
the love of her life. After that, she became silent. She felt broken. She can’t even
eat or think well. She lost her appetite. She locked herself in her room and stayed
away from many people; she always cried every night and thought to end her life.
She has no interest in anything. It lasted 7 months of feeling useless. And after
one year, she was at the mall and saw a familiar face. It was Axel, she stopped
and stared at him for a little while, he was looking at some clothes then he turned
and saw her,” hey Blair it’s been a while… How are you?”. They talked for a little
while and after that, when Blair was home she cried because she was hurt, she
couldn’t move on because she saw Axel.

After many days she received an invitation from Axel to be the fairy
godmother of their child. She felt more broken than ever. After that event, Axel
and her mom talked and she told Axel not to talk to Blair and forget her. Axel
followed her mom. Blair came to Dorothy’s house and Axel was there, but he
didn’t talk to Blair. Blair cried a lot because Axel is not talking to her, and she
was thinking about suicide because she can’t handle the pain that Axel gave her.
Axel lived there for 5 months. After many days Axel heard the news that Blair
took suicide. He cried and felt guilty about what had he done. He stood alone
drowning in sorrow and guilt, feeling somewhat responsible for what had
happened, but it was not like there was anything he could do, all of his best
apologies wouldn’t fix anything when she wouldn’t be there to hear him.
