General Responsibilities:
● Collaborate with the laboratory team of three graduate students, PI, Co-PI
and Research Coordinator
● Attend laboratory meetings weekly to discuss study progression and
recruitment updates
● Generate and send study survey information to early-stage breast cancer
patients and their partners through REDCap Survey & Database Software
● Create daily diary instances for patients and partners for three different
time points in the study
● Communicate with the Research Coordinator and a graduate student about
study survey information
● Observe and assist the Research Coordinator with patient and partner
study visits at the Helen F. Graham Cancer Center & Research Institute
(HFGCCRI)

General Responsibilities:
● Conducted a new subset of research to evaluate the representativeness of
an early-stage breast cancer sample compared to the larger breast cancer
population at HFGCCRI
● Completed literary reviews on a multitude of studies regarding
representativeness and recruitment strategies
● Generated and sent study survey information to early-stage breast cancer
patients and their partners through REDCap Survey & Database Software
● Attended weekly meetings with laboratory team
● Sent recruitment brochures and letters to potentially eligible participants
● Input patient data from PowerChart into the study’s tracking log system
● Attended weekly breast conference where cancer teams of Oncologists,
Radiologists, Surgeons etc. discuss complex breast cancer cases
● Engaged in professional and skill development workshops with the
INBRE Program Manager, other INBRE Summer Scholars, and
University of Delaware faculty
● Participated in and presented a relevant article during a bi-weekly journal
club with the INBRE Program Manager and other INBRE Summer
Scholars
● Shadowed a Community Outreach Coordinator at a Community Outreach
event that educated the local community on cancer prevention practices
● Gathered qualitative, demographic, and clinical data from patients to
evaluate representativeness
● Ran descriptive statistics in SPSS Statistics to receive data on the
frequency of categorical variables
● Shadowed Psychosocial Oncologist, Dr. Meghan McMahon, in the
Thoracic Multidisciplinary Center and during inpatient visits at
ChristianaCare hospital
● Shadowed Chief of Surgical Oncology, Dr. Joseph Bennett, during
surgical oncology patient visits
● Conversed with Psychosocial Oncologist, Dr. Shannon Virtue, about
research and career interests, including infertility risk among breast cancer
patients
● Presented preliminary research findings at a Scientific Poster Presentation
and Oral Presentation to other INBRE Scholars, University of Delaware
faculty, mentors, and the Medical Director of HGCCRI.
