1. Watch your video and describe your strategies for classroom management (effective
or otherwise) including:
a. How you redirect off-task behavior.
b. How you address students directly when they are off-task and/or distracting
others from learning.
c. What are the causes for students being on or off-task and/or distracting
others?

● I ran pretty fast paced rehearsal to give students as few opportunities to get of task as
possible
● When students did get off task, I avoid talking over them and waited for them to quiet
down before continuing to give instruction
● students got off task when they were not being worked with, were overwhelmed by the
music
● when one section was struggling I tried to get the rest of the ensemble involved so they
weren’t just waiting on their peers.

I think I can help eliminate off-task behavior by getting my students more involved in the
rehearsal process, even when they are not being directly worked with. Asking them to listen and
give their opinions, including exit tickets, having them finger or sizzle along, and providing beat
keeping sounds will help stay engaged and thinking about the music.

2. Scan through your video one more time, this time drawing a proximity map below
for every time you moved throughout the lesson.

I basically just stayed on the podium the whole time, I do a better job
moving around when I am not conducting, I need to get more comfortable getting off the podium
when I am conducting and allowing the students to be in more of a leadership role during
rehearsal. Standing on the podium the whole time did not benefit my students. Moving around
more would allow me to better access all of my students and help them when and where they
need it.
