Greetings from the Opportunities and Outreach team, Global Engagement

Council!

This document is a compilation of the formalities and experiences of a semester

exchange program. The data has been collected from the office of global
engagement, IIT Madras, and from students who have gone for similar programs
previously. The purpose of this bluebook is to help students considering a
semester exchange gain insights into the various opportunities available and
make the right decision. The document also has links to video testimonials for a
few universities wherein students of IIT Madras who have participated in
semester exchange at a particular university have given a comprehensive account
of their experience there.

The bluebook is sorted geographically, based on the universities for this academic
year. It is to be noted that university lists change every year so it is possible that
a few universities of interest are not referenced in the bluebook.

This book will serve as a quick reference to those looking for semester exchange
information of many universities in one place. Relevant links are provided in case
you want to explore any particular university further. Find all-important
information without having to dig up smails and watch recordings of information
sessions!

This is the first edition of the bluebook. We hope it’ll be useful in your semester
exchange journey. Do reach out to the team for any queries.

General Procedure while applying for Semester Exchange

The student must select a university based on information available on the Global
Engagement Office website (https://ge.iitm.ac.in/). Institutions with whom IITM has a
current MOU offer tuition fee waiver.

Interested students have to get nominated first. To be nominated, interested students

should submit the duly filled Letter of Approval form (signed by Faculty Advisor and
Head of Department) along with the passport copy and your official transcripts to
outbound@ge.iitm.ac.in before the mentioned nomination deadline.

Requirements for nomination

 The student will have to identify a set of courses to be taken during the semester
abroad, check the suitability of semester duration and the language of instruction.
 He / She must then consult with the Faculty Advisor regarding the suitability of the
proposed courses. The approval of the Faculty Advisor is an essential step of the
process.
 The student must obtain the approval of the Head of the Department.
 The student must then obtain the necessary clearances from the Academic section
and Dean Academic Courses approval prior to submitting the request to the Global
Engagement Office. Students carrying backlogs are not allowed to participate in
“study-abroad” programs.

The student can submit his necessary documents to the Global Engagement Office. The
office will then nominate the applicant to the relevant Office at the foreign university
and facilitate the process of admission.

After nomination, the student must fill up the application form of the host institution
and prepare the required documents required by the host institution. The application
form must be submitted before the mentioned application deadline of the host
