GE Voluson E10 System Front End
The front end FRU for the Voluson E10 comes as a unit with a housing with and both boards pre-mounted.
The boards can be purchased separately but in general it is usually more cost effective to replace the entire
unit.

Power Distribution
This module covers Power Distribution topics for the Voluson E10 ultrasound system.

© 2017 Conquest Imaging

GE Voluson E10 System Power Supply
Supplies the various internal subsystems with
AC power and galvanically isolates the system
from the on site Mains Power System.
 To reduce inrush current, an inrush current
limiter is implemented.
 From the input voltage from the Power
Supply (RSP) the AC/DC converter generates
all system supply voltages, which include:
1. Front End voltages
2. Standby voltages
3. ATX motherboard supply 1 Circuit Breaker
4. Transmit (Tx) voltages 2 Fuses (2x T10A H/250V)
3 Connector for Main Power Cable
 In addition, the AC/DC device contains the 4 Lift system (12VDC)
digital motor amplifier. 5 Auxiliary Output
6 Protective Earth connection
7 Equipotential connection

Network Connectivity
This module covers general network connectivity and specifics for the Voluson E10 ultrasound system.

© 2017 Conquest Imaging

General Connectivity Parameters
Below is a list of items you need to set up the network on the system, have a hard copy of these items as they
might not get backed up on disc.

 System name, IP address, and Subnet Mask (from IS/IT).

 Destination name and IP address (DICOM, PACS, or HIS/RIS) (from IS/IT).
 AE titles for all hosts and servers on network as well as Port numbers.
 Wireless network setting (LE9 with R2.0.0 or later).
 Network printers (if any).
 Default gateway.
 Admin password

Log into system using password above.

Go to utilities  connectivity  TCP/IP settings.

Obtain and record info you need.

Connectivity GE Dataflows
GE refers to communication between its ultrasound systems and other information providers on the network as
“dataflows”. A dataflow is a set of configured settings. Communication between the Voluson E-Series ultrasound
system and other information providers on the network takes the form of data flows.

The following are some examples:

 The local database is used for patient archiving. Images are stored to internal hard drive.

 The local database is used for patient archiving. Afterwards images are stored to a DVD/CD or external USB
device, etc.

 A remote database is used for patient archiving. Images are also stored to a remote archive.

 Search in the DICOM Modality Worklist, the patient found is copied into local database. The patient information
and the examination results are stored to the local database. Images are stored to a DICOM server and to an
image network volume on the local hard drive.

Preventative Maintenance
This module covers the basics of preventative maintenance along with some system specific
procedures.

System Backup
Backup the system anytime you are in front of it! Your backup is not complete without printouts!

To minimize accidental loss of data, you should perform backup of the patient archive stored on the local hard drive
at least once a week.

The Backup/Restore function enables the user to:

 Copy/Restore the patient archive.
 Copy/Restore the system configuration.

Note that the Copy/Restore system configuration feature enables the user to configure several units with identical
presets, providing that the units have the same software version.

Transducers
All transducers require proper handling, care and cleaning. Follow the specific procedures provided by the
manufacturer for that type of transducer. Often different types of cleaning agents are used on different parts of
the transducer. Use only the transmission gels and disinfectants listed as compatible with a particular
transducer to prevent damage. There should be a written procedure available that must be followed.

The following applies to all transducers:

 Transducers must be cleaned after every use. There are 3 levels of disinfection:
 Low level – transducer contacts only intact skin.
 High level – transducer contacts mucous membranes
 Sterilization – transducer enters otherwise sterile tissues

 Transducers should be inspected for cracks and other damage before each use.

© 2017 Conquest Imaging

Using USB Devices
Before using any USB devices please make sure it does not have any pre-existing software!

USB sticks should not have any auto install software on it. Always erase any software from the
device first by formatting it on a desktop PC prior to using it unless you are absolutely certain
that the device is completely blank.

An external USB-storage device may be connected after the system is turned on.

 The Windows operating system detects the device and automatically installs a driver.
 During this process, several dialogs may pop up, starting with the “Found New Hardware“ dialog.
 If an external drive was not recognized automatically after connecting it, click Rescan Drive.
 The device is then accessible using the drive letter the system assigned to it.

Troubleshooting
This module provides a guide to troubleshooting and information on troubleshooting some specific
issues.

Troubleshooting Approach
Troubleshooting Common Issues
Troubleshooting Log/Image Capture
Troubleshooting No Audio

© 2017 Conquest Imaging

Troubleshooting Approach
Utilize signal flow and board functions to evaluate any issues with the system.

Steer your questions to isolate the problem:

 Front End (FEP) issue vs. BEP.

 Hardware vs. Software issue.

Ask the “Right” questions:

 What software, hardware, and options?  Intermittent vs. constant?

 Any artifacts in image sector or entire screen?  Any changes prior to or leading up to issue?
 What imaging modes are affected?  System stationary vs. portable?
 What probe (s) or ports are affected?  How often do you send exams to PACS?

User Interface LED Status
The LED within the ON/OFF button is used to signal the status of the Voluson E-Series system. The following states are
possible:
 Orange --System in standby mode.

 Green System in normal operation mode.

 Blinking Orange <=> Green

FPGA_CONF_DONE = low
IF-FPGA is not initialized it is probably a FrontEnd (RFM board) or Power Supply (RSP)
issue.

 NO light System is switched OFF (circuit breaker)

 NO light and system is switched ON probably Power Supply (RSP) defect

© 2017 Conquest Imaging

Boot Up Diagnostic - Status LEDs
The boot up diagnostic LEDs behind the right side door can provide useful information to diagnose system system
issues.
1 5V Standby – ON
 5V Standby voltage available from Power supply (RSP)
 If ON/OFF button of the console is dark but 5V standby light is on then the line
1 up to the Console is interrupted (RSP -> RTB -> RTT -> RTU).
2 1 5V Standby – OFF
 5V Standby voltage not available.
 No mains voltage, mains power cable not connected.
 System is switched off (circuit breaker off).
 Power supply (RSP) defective.
2 Configuration done – ON
 FrontEnd Configuration was successful.
2 Configuration done – OFF
 FrontEnd FPGA was not initialized correctly -> probably issue with RFM-Board
 In this state the ON/OFF button of the console is blinking (orange <-> green)
 Further boot up is continued without FrontEnd hardware.

© 2017 Conquest Imaging

Boot Up Diagnostic - Status LEDs
The boot up diagnostic LEDs behind the right side door can provide useful information to diagnose system system
issues.
3 PC Power OK – ON
 PC was started, ATX supply voltages are all switched on.
1 3 PC Power OK – OFF
 PC was not started correctly.
2  RSP could not send „Start PC“ Signal, and/or PC did not send „PS_ON“ signal.
 All cables/connectors between Power supply (RSP) and PC should be checked.
3  BackEnd (PC-Board) or Power supply (RSP) could be defective.

4 4 HDD status – ON (blinking)

 Accessing the hard disk (normally blinking) useful to observe hard disk
activities.
4 HDD status – OFF
 No access to the hard disk.
 Depending on the status of the system software hang-ups can be confirmed.

Back Panel Removal
After the side panel has been removed
you can remove the back panel.

Loosen all four screws from

both sides of the panel.
