Significance of the Study

The present study is significant due to the increasing strategic business weight and attention
paid by Indian corporate organizations which have result business to be more sustainable and
the role of these organizations in the Indian economy and Indian society is very important.
This CSR practices playing an important role in improving the repetition of these
organizations in the corporate world and CSR activities catching up in these organizations to
now. Indian organizations have now realized that customers are willing to pay more of the
organization that acts on ideas, therefore, this study is significant with a view to know all
about the CSR activities implemented by the select organizations.

Statement of the Problem:


From the past studies it has been found that the contribution by Indian companies on
corporate social responsibility is deficient. The new legislation of Companies Act 2013
requires certain class of companies to spend at least 2 % of their three year average annual
net profit towards CSR activities. It in this perspective the following study is undertaken to
figure out CSR spending of the Maharatna companies.

Objectives of the Study


The study is based on the following objectives:
1. To study the conceptual framework of corporate social responsibility.
2. To study the spendings towards CSR by select Maharatna Companies.
3. To compare the CSR practices of select Maharatna Companies.
4. To evaluate the CSR approaches adopted by select organizations.
5. To study the stakeholder perception towards CSR activities of select companies

Hypotheses of the study


1. i. Ho: There is no significant difference in CSR spendings among various sectors of the
select companies.
ii. Ha: There is a significant difference in CSR spendings among various sectors of the
select companies.

2. i. Ho: There is no significant difference in CSR spendings among the select companies.
ii. Ha: There is a significant difference in CSR spendings among the select companies.

3. i. Ho: There is no significant difference in the CSR approach adopted by the select
companies.
