1. I have grown as a teacher in many ways from this class.
I have learned how to make the
classroom a more creative environment. There are so many opportunities to do integration lessons and allow students to touch their creative side than I first thought possible. I used to dislike the thought of doing a lot of crafts/art with students, but now I realize the benefit of them. I have gained a lot of ideas on how to include them in my teaching. 2. I plan to do a TAB day with my students. Even though I do not plan on teaching art, I think it is good for students to have a day where they have free choice with materials. They can get creative, and it can be relaxing for many students. I feel as if they do not get enough art at the elementary age. The EdTPA lesson I made for this class I think would be fun to use in my future classroom. I created presidents, and the lesson could be easily adjusted for various ages and would make a cute craft for Presidents day. I want to use VTS. I like the idea of giving students silent time to analyze a visual that is in front of them, it forces them to think deeply. I have learned that silence is beneficial in a classroom. Students can gain so much knowledge from one another, so having them share their thoughts out loud will help them generate more ideas. 3. I believe that doing a practice EdTPA lesson was beneficial. Surprisingly, we have not done a full practice lesson in other ED classes. Considering next year will consist of a lot of EdTPA this gave me a set of expectations of what next semester will be like. I am looking forward to receiving feedback on my lesson so I can prepare for different areas of improvement. Although it was not the most fun assignment, I think it will only make me a better student next semester. 4. The art history project is something I would like to look further into. It was a fun challenge to learn about an artist other than Picasso, Van Gogh, and other old white dudes. I feel like I only hear about the same ones, when so many artists have equal talent. It would be exciting to dive into modern artists who are going to leave an impact on future art history.
