Greenfield Public Schools

Resources for Students and Families

Greenfield Public Schools is dedicated to keeping our students engaged in learning, despite the
rapid changes we are experiencing. Governor Baker has enacted emergency measures to
suspend all school operations for 3 weeks, until April 6, 2020. However, our teachers and
administrators have put together some of the best resources for families to keep your children
engaged while they cannot be in school during this time. These are not required, but they are
excellent ways to keep children of all ages engaged in learning when they cannot be in school.
Because this is a preK-12 resource, please be aware that not all resources are suited for
students of all ages, and we ask that you help select resources most appropriate for your
child(ren). We will continue to update this resource often, please check back!

focus on what you are learning, the differences between school and home, or how the

Food, Cooking & Nutrition

● Chef-It-Up! Now is the time to use the skills you learned in your culinary classes to
make something tasty for yourself and your family or housemates.
○ 1. Look in your fridge and pantry to see what likely ingredients for a recipe you
can find.
○ 2. Look for a recipe (off or online) that uses those ingredients.
○ 3. If you don’t have a particular ingredient, use your common sense and these
guidelines to see if you can substitute a different ingredient that you do have;
Add-ins are things in a recipe that will not change the texture, like using nuts or
seeds instead of dried fruit. Remember that you can make your own buttermilk
(1 C milk plus 1 tsp. vinegar) for a muffin recipe. Maybe you can substitute juice
for milk, but you can’t just leave the milk out and expect a muffin to come out
well.
○ Evaluate your results and write a critique; did it come out the way you had
hoped? What went wrong and what went right? Post a picture of your finished
product with the recipe and your evaluation to your Google Classroom Culinary
Class page! You may try to reach me with questions through Google Classroom
(I check my email at least daily). - Chef Yaffee

A Note to Families: We hope you find these resources from our teachers helpful. We will be
adding to this list frequently! Studies show that routine and structure can be helpful for learning,
so you may wish to adopt the routine that works best for your family at home to help your child
access the resources above. While they are not required, we hope these resources will help
your child continue to stay engaged with learning while school operations are suspended.
