Resources: examples of this the teacher will read Dreamers by Yuri
Morales. The teacher will direct the students to the reading area
and have all the students sit on the carpet. The teacher will read
this story to the students emphasizing the characteristics of a
fictional narrative. After the teacher finished reading this story
they will ask the students what characteristics they saw that we
talked about when we talked about narrative writing. Also
asking them if they think that this book was fiction or
nonfiction. Then having them talk about why it is a fiction

champ-flexibility-level-1 is a stretching video for students
when they need a brain break. After the brain break the teacher
will then explain to the students that for the remainder of the
time, the students will write their own narrative story. The
teacher will walk around and check on each student and their
story while they are writing. Then the teacher will end the class
with an overall summary of narrative writing and ask the
students what they learned and have them show with their
thumbs how they are feeling about narrative writing.

Students: The students will participate in class discussions.

They will sit quietly and listen attentively to the teacher as they
read the book and answer questions about the book when the
teacher asks them to. Lastly, they will take a brain break if
needed. When it is time they will return back to work and write
their own narrative story. They will choose what they want to
write their narrative about and whether it be fiction or
nonfiction. They will ask for help from the teacher when
needed. Lastly, they will share what they learned today in this
lesson and even what they have learned all this week.

Teacher Materials: The teacher will need the book Dreamers

by Yuri Morales, a computer, and a projector for the brain
break video.

Students' Materials: The students will need a writing utensil

and paper for writing or their computers/ipads if they need to
use that to write their story.
