MUST/ MUSTN’T

MUST – is used to talk about obligation

strong recommendations

Eg.: You must wear a helmet when you ride a bike. (obligation)

You must take an aspirin. (I strongly recommend you.)

MUSTN’T is used to talk about prohibition it is forbidden to do something

you are not allowed to do something

it is against the rules

is used to talk about strong advice against momething.

Eg.: You mustn’t park here. (You are not allowed/ it is against the rules.)

It is bad for your health. You mustn’t smoke anymore.

MUSTN’T VS. DON’T HAVE TO

We use MUSTN’T to say that it’s necessary or very important NOT to do something.

Eg.: You mustn’t forget to lock the door.

We use DON’T HAVE TO to say that it is NOT necessary to do something.

Eg.: They don’t have to wear a uniform at school.
