Executive Summary
Eaton has undertaken a testing regime to determine the profile of the CMC Cabinet in regards to the thermal and
noise performance characteristics.
Eaton certifies that the CMC will comply with:-
°
The NES 50 dBA day / 40 dBA night noise limits at an ambient day of 35 C with a heat load of 220W in
the Misc Cabinet
Cabinet dimensions are 1790 mm (H) x 2310 mm (W) x 600mm (D)
Results
1. Noise and Heat Load – The noise levels for the cabinet is tabulated below for the heat load.

1. Testing method
Due to ambient noise and testing limitations, it was not possible to directly measure noise levels in the installed
system at Southbridge.
The CMC cabinet noise levels are directly related to heat exchanger fan speeds
This test relates noise levels measured against heat exchanger fan speed in a studio environment to actual fan
speeds in an installed system at Southbridge.
The measured fan speeds at Southbridge are put into the fan speed versus noise figures to show the actual noise
levels that would be found in the Southbridge site.
This data applies to a system with similar or lower power loads, and up to 31°C ambient temperature. Higher loads
and temperatures will result in increased fan speeds and hence increased noise.
Extrapolated noise levels at 35°C are still well within NES limits; higher power levels are expected to remain within
limits, but will require further testing.

2. Noise Performance
Date of Tests: February 2013
Test Location: Whitebait Recording Studio 1
Tests performed by: Mike Nixon, Engineer, Eaton (Email: MichaelJNixon@eaton.com, Phone: 03-341-4961)
Product: CMC Type A
The noise levels are recorded 1m off the cabinet. The background noise was 32dBA.

Notes:
1. Fan speeds from Figure 2.
2. In some cases, actual field fan speeds were lower than in the sound lab. In this case, the lowest sound lab
noise figures were used.
3. 3m values calculated as 1m values - 9.5dBA
The results above show that with the loading in the test cabinet (18A total), and up to 31°C, the cabinet noise is well
within the NES limits.
