FOREWORD
This Indian Standard was adopted by the Bureau of Indian Standards, after the draft finalized by the Surgical
Dressings Sectional Committee had been approved by the Medical Equipment and Hospital Planning Division
Council.
The first-aid kits specified in this standard are applicable for general use. Although, some industrial and commer-
cial first-aid requirements may be met by this ket but the kit is generally not applicable for providing specialized
first-aid treatment.
For the purpose of deciding whether a particular requirement of this standard is complied with, the final value,
observed or calculated, expressing the result of a test or analysis, shall be rounded off in accordance with IS 2 : 1960
‘Rules for rounding off numerical values (revised)’. The number of significant places retained in the rounded off
value should be the same as that of the specified value in this standard.

aid treatment brought out by the Indian Red
Cross Society and Saint John’s Ambulance
Association and Brigade.
5 PACKING
Each first-aid kit shall be packed in a durable container
Z such that each item of contents is easily accessible. Care
shall be taken to ensure that the material from which
the container is fabricated is suitable for the
environment for which the kit is intended with respect
to the possible effect of ambient temperature and
humidity on deterioriation of any of the contents.
6 MARKING
6.1 Each item of the first-aid kit excluding safetly pins,
scissors and forceps, shall bear on its label the following
information:
a) Name of the item and its brand name, if any;
b) Bath/Lot No. and date of manufacture;
c) Size/quantity; and
d) Manufacturing licence No. (where applicable),
and manufacturer’s name and address.
6.2 The container of first-aid kit shall be legibly and
indelibly marked with the following information:
a) Words ‘First-Aid Kit’, in letters not less than
20 mm in height;
b) First-aid symbol; and
c) Trade-mark, if any, and manufacturer’s name
and address.
