3. The tragedy in Oedipus the King seems to lie in contrast between the supreme will of the Gods and the
vain attempts of mankind to escape the evil that threatens him. Discuss. (10)
(b) Critically analyse the role that Tiresias plays in Oedipus the King. (6)
4. Do you agree with the idea that Oedipus is a wise and resourceful man who is more sinned against than
sinning? Give reasons for your answer. (16)
