Statement of the Problem

The term substance abuse is a pattern of using a substance that causes problems or

frustration. This may include missing work or school, or using the substance in situations
such as driving, writing, or just simply walking after consuming a substance.  This may result
in substance-related problems, or it may be as a result of continued substance use that
can interfere with one’s relationship with school mates, family relationships, or both. As a
recognised medical brain disorder, substance abuse pertains to the use of substances such
as drugs, alcohol and nicotine. In various cases the most frequently used substance is
alcohol.

Rationale
It is now obvious that underage adolescent alcohol consumption has emerged as the norm.
As students at a prestigious college, we frequently overheard colleagues discussing the
different kinds of alcohol they had consumed due to circumstances and how it affects them.
We were drawn to this topic because of the new trend of underage students consuming
alcohol, which is cause for concern and should not occur due to the consequences.
Furthermore, students are victims of this type of substance abuse due to a variety of factors.
Some of these may be due to social occasions such as weddings, family gatherings, parties,
or even a school prom where alcohol can be concealed and brought in. In other cases, it
may be ongoing events outside of school, such as domestic problems where they may be
subjected to verbal, sexual, and emotional abuse. The group will analyse why this type of
substance abuse is so prevalent and make recommendations that can mitigate such
problems in schools.

Methods of Investigation
A Questionnaire would be used by the group for this analysis. A questionnaire is a series of
questions that must be answered in order to generate data. It is an excellent method for
collecting information because it takes less time to complete and ensures the confidentiality
of respondents. Furthermore, for the questionnaire, the group will create 20 questions that
respondents will answer by simply ticking the box of their choice. This questionnaire will be
completed in strict confidentiality and must be relevant to the topic at mentioned

Conclusion
Even when exposed to substances that can be used in ways that cause problems, most
people don't become addicted to them. Most people who develop addiction have
problems already
